Propane Injection in a gas engine?
Propane Injection in a gas engine?
I had always thought propane injection was a diesel only trick, but recently I've heard people talking about it for gas. saying it's more reliable and more effective than meth. Where can I read up on this? Anybody have any opinions?
not sure about that as a power adder, HOWEVER, it can be used in addition to gas to increase fuel economy. Europe has done it for years with cheap $300 kits. u run propane until its empty, then flip a switch & continue on gas. avg 40% increase in fuel economy. a buddy of mine is running propane in his diesel Land Rover over in Surrey England averaging 1076 miles or 47mpg!!!!!!!! he only fills up once a month...

It is interesting that Propane can be run though conventional fuel injectors as a liquid that then flashes to a gas.
In theory the EVO FI could be converted completely over to propane.
110 Octane and very cold gas, would in theory, Make alot of power.
You could then keep a big tank in the back yard and fill up whenever you wanted too.
Big heay tank is the main problem.

i don't think a puncture would cause it to explode. mythbusters did a bond special where they shot propane tanks and they just spewed the gas out. they did get it to explode, but with a different ammo.
there are some intresting kits coming out.
the problem with LPG (Liquid Potrolium Gas) is it dosen't have the same energy per unit as normal fuel. these meason you need alot more LPG to get the same AFR.
the newer kits actaully inject the LPG into the manfiold like you do with noramal fuel. this means you are loosing less air thanks to the volume of LPG that the older kits.
as for overall power on a nomal car i think you are normally a little down with LPG. however once you start to really turn things up im not sure whichj way it would go! the added octane of the LPG might help out and with it being nice and cold might cool the intake a bit to!
thanks Chris.

That'd be interesting to see if something like that could work in general in gasoline vehicles--anything to help our fuel economy is a step in the right direction to help ween ourselves [the U.S.] off of overseas petroleum.
They do make composite propane tanks.

Yes, you can run your car off of propane w/o it blowing up. It is really no more dangerous than rolling around with a large metal tank filled with flammable gasoline.
It burns extremely clean, your oil stays cleaner, longer.
Your engine wear is reduced.
You don't get nasty carbon build up in your intake from the EGR.
Even worse news, gasoline is a by-product.
iI gasoline burnt cleaner than propane, we would be using regular unleaded to grill our dogs, burgers and steaks.
