Thumbs up Groden Aluminum Rods a must for serious power

We just pulled our motor out today and held our breath as we pulled the caps off the rods and WOW the bearings are gorgeous. This is the 3rd time we have done this and each time our bearings have been awesome. We have had miss fires at 57psi to 22 deg of timing on the dyno for ***** out pulls. My radiator is even a liittle bowed from so much timing (I pushed the timing button on the aem Lucas did not do that) I'm also shifting at 10k rpms. The rods are going to the machine shop in the morning and getting check out so i will get pics up real soon.

With 250 passes on steel rods we were checking and changing bearing every 30 passes from pushing the tune so hard. Not anymore.

Jake Montgomery who has a 1st gen dsm has raced every BOTI with passes in 155-159mph at 9.2 et has won 3 BOTI just now checked his bearings after a full season of racing. They were freaken perfect!. Rods were fine.

Lucas has another set of Groden Aluminums and is going to test them on his daily driver. Groden said you can go 70k miles without checking them so we will see

Great news!

V8 guys have been using aluminum rods for years with great sucess. Aluminum rods are a great "shock absorber". Good to hear they're working on the 4G63.

Do you have any pictures?

This is great news! Im in the process of changing some things around. Looking for a 88mm crank and some rods to get rid of the stroker and get to some destroking. Then i might have to come after you...lol.... I live in the Tri Cities so maybe we will have to get together sometime so i can check out your beast!

If you can PM me some info on your rods and bearings your using im thinking about going to Lucas instead of RREV this time to do the dynoing and tuning.

Thanks
Chris

Ya but i wonder if they make them in 162mm or just standard?? I hope they make them in the long rod version otherwise i guess im going to have to go with Magnus Aluminum Rods which im sure are good too but i dont believe they have the black alignment pins in the caps and also they seem to be a little beefer then the Magnus ones and of course a little cheaper.

I tried going to there website but no go i guess its down??

Give Groden a call hes a good ole boy but very honest. You'll have to send him a money order. I know AMS also sell them on stock size. But for custom stuff give Groden a call. I know they run around $600 You will need 1st gen bearings with the hole drilled out some but talk to him he will hook you up.

Im trying to think wo else sells them. AMS,Buschur, and im not sure who else

I wouldn't recommend that . . . at all!

Aluminum has a finite fatigue life, and when it goes, it does so without warning, visual or otherwise. I've seen plenty of broken ones (and the ensuing carnage).

Use them for a season and replace them. It's cheap insurance.

Bah alcohol man! We are going to see if what he says in true with Lucas daily driver. I'm trying to get more detail from him on why his rods are stronger and last longer. But yes it will take time to see if these rods will break after some mileage. Lucas is up for it. My car is nowhere near a daily driver.

Upon a quick Google search, I came across this:

http://www.bmeltd.com/rods.htm

Tons of info, but concludes to one thing: Forged Aluminum rods are the shizznizzle.

Yea theyre pretty good. I would have to say that i was one of the first to use those back in 1999 on a 4g63 they lasted me almost 3 yrs @ 40 psi of boost. Groden was like 10 minutes from where i lived.

Like I said, I would love to see 50,000+ miles put on these rods. It would be very nice to use these if that is proven, but I am hesitent on a combination car for DD and track.
