Compressor leak test... help...

Hello,

i closed the inlet and the outlet of my GT3071 compressor side.
Then i continuously fed it with 2 bar of compressed air, but i read a maximum of 0.5 bar in the turbo's compressor side.
I hear that the air is escaping through the turbo oil outlet...
Is it normal for you?

TIA.

when doing boost leak tests, when i have the compressor in the system air does not leak past the seals on the compressor.

obviously if the seals were bad, then air would slip past them.

i've also heard that you need oil pressure for air to not slip past the seals, but boost leak tests are always done with the car off, and the crank case never gets pressurized.. therefor oil pressure shouldn't make a difference.

turbos do not have 'seals' they have a step in the shaft which acts as a seal

the turbo is fine, i would assume the car wasn't running when you did the test?

I think you're doing it wrong. All you need to do is pull your intake off from the compressor inlet and put the tester on that. you shouldn't disconnect or close off anything else (except if you have an MBC you will need to tighten it so it doesn't bleed off). Pressurize the system and listen for leaks.

No, the turbo was off the engine...

I already made this test... and it helped me to find a pop off flange leak...

But this I made is strictly a compressor leak test, not an intake sytem test, because I have to find why my sump is getting pressurized... and I think the problem should be here...

Bye.
