driveline fluids

Has anyone ever used the Mobil 1 75W90 GL5 for their driveline fluids? The bottle states that it meets API GL5, exceeds 75w90 (tranny fluid). I used it on my tranny and transfer case. Did not get enough for rear diff. But if anyone uses it or has any expertise on it let me know before I go shredding the snow!!!!!

The tranny calls for GL-4 and the tcase and diffs call for GL-5 so I dont know how well it will work with the tranny. Also in my limited experience with transfercases and hundreds of hours of reading, I would only use diaqueen in my tcase and rear diff just to be on the safe side. Some fluids classified as GL-5 dont actually protect well enough for the tcase and can cause issues down the line.

Ill second that, but I normally stay out of these discussions because Im slightly partial to Diaqueen.

so i am getting frustrated trying to find an equivalent fluid for the transfer case and rear dif. what is equivalent for the stock fluid that is sold in stores? All I find in the auto stores are GL-5 75W90 and that is all. So any help would be great.

There is no GL-4 out in the stores all they sell is GL-5 75WW90 or higher, even the non-synthetic fluids.

You need to plan ahead and order the fluid you need next time. Like you said the stores only carry limited variety of lubes. I started using AMSOIL about 1k miles ago on my trans,tc and rear diff and everything seem to be just fine, except the 1-2 shift got notchy and grinds sometimes. I used to get locked out in 1st and reverse but those went away but replaced with the 1-2 shift issue. There's a lot of brands out there, it's really just what you choose. Replace that Mobil 1 asap! with OEM or AMSOIL.

The one place where I would not worry about using Mobil gear oil is the rear diff. The rear diff should work fine with any of the gear lubes on the market.

Then I would suggest you buy it online. Some fluids are rated for GL-4 and GL-5 but I wouldnt trust that in the finicky parts of the evo. I personally use Redline MT90 which is a GL-4 fluid I bought online and it has been working great. Most autoparts stores, unless its a specialty store sell a limited selection of fluids.

For my tranny, i put in 2 qts of Redline MT-90 and 1 at MTL. That puts me in between 75W80 and 75W90 viscosity level. I noticed that they do take a bit longer to warm up than OEM fluid. It's hard to get in second when the car is cold. Maybe it's the viscosity level since OEM uses 75W85. I don't know if any of you guys feel the same.

i was told that you have to let the car warm up a bit longer because the amsoil trans fluid doesn't have any special additives. Have you tried this out yet? I was going to pick the amsoil tranny fluid
