My friend bought a new EVO8, and it smells funny. It smells like a plastic burning, but not quite pronounced. It doesnt smell like burning clutch. Is this normal?

 

I smelled that smell on the first two days as well. I don't know if it's exactly the same smell, but I smelled it more from outside, coming from the engine. I just thought it was the new engine smell.

 

its most likely the new motor breaking in most motors smell like aht when new cause all the parts are getting there first heat cylcles and first beatings etc

 

Its the same smell, only on the outside. Ill tell him its just him that smells and go take a bath.

 

It's called Cosmolene, it comes on cars imported from overseas. It prevents rust on undercarriage while being on the boat during shipping. It should go away within 1000miles.

 

My car did this as well; to me it seemed like undercoating spray that hit the exhaust bits. I just ended up taking it for 400 mile (round trip) drive and that solved the problem.

Love all those toxic chemicals burning off...got a buzz driving home from the Mitsu dealer...

 

When me and my friend drove off the lot with his EVO, we thought the POS van in front of us is stinking up the place. Then we pulled over to his house to find out its his car making the stinky smell.

I told him its normal, when i installed an aftermarket exhaust on my car it made the same smell.

Thnx guys for the responce ill print this out and give it to him, his being paranoid about it.

 

Ahhhhhhh .... as good as a brand ne pair of shoes.
