Wow I feel patient now sitting down and reading the whole thread.

IMO, the buschur filter is nice but if it causes problems go back to stock airbox. Ta da! That's it. That wasn't so bad now was it?

Well I have to say that I have mixed feelings about the intake (I ordered it just to evaluate): (1) I like the quality of the bends and welds -- very nice, (2) the pipe should have a bung -- easy change, and (3) I personally think BR should use a different filter for street applications (flow is good but particulate filtration is not great).

Not all pipes are equal quality. I am no BR fan boy, but the bends and welds are very good. I don't understand why Dave uses SS instead of aluminum (pro race cars -- F1 to rally have used aluminum), but it probably does not really matter for most of us. Dave nice stuff, but add the bung please .

PS - I have a new BR intake and UICP never used For Sale if anyone wants one...

This should be a relatively simple fix. Also, do you have the breather hose that goes from the valve cover to your turbo intake pipe still in place or do you have one of the Bushcur breather filters? If you have a breather filter, get rid of it now and put the breather hose back on.

Open a thread in the ECUFlash forums. You should get plenty of replies and I will jump in where necessary.

Eric

Edit: I am assuming that you have an ECUFlash cable or access to one, maybe from a friend. If not, then it's your call whether you wan't help fixing/tuning this yourself with an ECUFlash cable (buying one) or to bring it to a pro tuner in person. Either way, I would still recommend posting your question and logs in the ECUFlash forum. This may be a simple hardware fix and need additional tuning (like the breather hose).
Cant he just run a breather filter and plug the intake pipe? This way unmeasured air would not get in.... Or are you referring to the intake manifold pulling in unmeasured air?

I am referring to the vacuum in the IM pulling in unmetered air. It's normal PCV operation.

If you would please be so kind and elaborate as to why you think the filter isn't good for street use, I'm just trying to learn your point of view. Thanks

I don't believe the dry filter that is being used with the BR kit will filter dirt as well as a factory paper filter, a K&N wet filter, or an S&B wet filter. That said, it is probably one of the least restrictive filters -- unfortunately there tends to be a negative correlation.

I can't give you data (unless you pay ), but I could probably get K&N or S&B to come on and provide all sorts of filtration data...

Based upon the silicon content in my oil from Blackstone Labs, the Buschur-type filter (I got mine from Ebay) produces no noticeable impact. How's that for data?

I know 100% for a fact that with the nisei mini battery kit, you can run the 100% stock factory airbox.

The nisei upper intercooler pipes also let you keep the factory airbox as well.

I don't think your statement has any data....Without seeing the Blackstone data for the different filter types and the duration of use, your statement is no more correct than speculation.

Also, I should have clarified that I drive on freeways / areas that are very dirty / sandy, so for me a filtration system with better particle / dirt capture is important.

Again, I am in no way criticizing Dave's kit -- I like the pipes a lot. I spent $750 on UICP, BOV, intake system -- is that a lot yes, but the quality is what I expected. The only thing I would change would be to add a bung and change the filter (both of which I plan on doing).

Thank you for your explanation. I had an idea that's was what you were going to say, but I'm not a person who likes to assume. Thanks for the clarification.

If you change to a mini battery, I don't see why you would have issue's with the stock airbox! I can't remember if I could still use my stock air box when I installed my mini battery, but I don't see why it would be an issue.
