EVO 6.5 RS TME Turbo ???

Hey folks I own an EVO VIII not sure what turbo to get, I want a streetable car and I want to keep costs down as much as possible. I'm not looking to break horse power records. I will just mainly use my EVO as a DD and to do some auto crossing.

Thinking about the EVO 6.5 RS TME Turbo or the Mitsubishi Evo 9 Turbo w/ 20G Compressor of off gruppe-s.com

what are your thoughts and concerns gentlemen???

thanks for the help

The 6.5 will give you better spool and probably be one of the best choices for autox. Im honestly not sure about the turbo off of Gruppe-s. Speedelement has the same choices on their website and have been intrigued, but know nothing of them.

I was in the same boat as you(streetable/driveability), and i went with the green. Not much different then stock characteristics, and i made 390 on buschur's dyno(with all supporting mods of course).

I really like speedelements variety when it comes to turbos. Especially their combo setups for the evo 8 and evo 9 variations. I definitely want to go with a evo 8 TME with the 10.5 hotside. I haven't called them to see how much they want for it though.

IMO i would go with a Green. I read into the 6.5 and it seems like its designed more for rally cars that see sustained high RPM/ EGT's and need a turbo that can handle anit-lag systems. For what you want, i think the green would be a better candidate

I have the TME and it spools amazingly! I have the 10.5 hotside on mine and it will def flow and spool a little more air than an VIII turbo. If I bought a Green I would go w/ a 3" fmic core, and gsc s1's to take FULL advantage of the slower spool it will have. Its laggier than the stock turbo, but not horribly slow.

JDM IX MR turbo (Evo 9.5) has 155G with titanium aluminide - aluminum turbine wheel (optional magnesium, supposedly doesn't shatter anymore at above stock boost). It'll be even better choice if spool is the most important factor. I'm not sure on whether TME or 9.5 titanium turbo can max out close to 400whp on pump gas like regular IX one does.

The green is a great turbo and to tell you the truth i drove my friends VIII with a green and HKS 272's and couldn't tell any difference in spool. It might have been 100-200rpm difference between mine and his (spool wise). But like mentioned above you may only get around 390hp (not bad at all) with a slighty longer spool. This figure can be achieve with a IX turbo and with cams may have a faster spool up than stock. My friend car made 405hp on a DynoDynamics w/ meth (when i drove it meth was off) which equates to about 465 on a DynoJet, so you can get close to larger turbo'd cars (3071r) and have better spool with the green, but you would need to run meth and 26psi of boost.
