Question Dumb newbie question about intercooler sprayer

Okay, I'm close to buying an EVO. I have sat in one, but not been able to test drive one yet. Here's my dumb question:

When I sat in the EVO, I was surprised to find that the intercooler spray switch was momentary in both directions. I expected it to be momentary in the Manual direction, but latching in the Auto direction. Since it's momentary in the Auto direction, how do you know that Auto is engaged/on? Is there a telltale in the cluster or something?

Also, after you turn the car off and back on again, do you need to re-enable the Auto intercooler spray every time??

I haven't used the intercooler spray much, but when you hit the Auto, it lights up on your dash with a little icon, telling you it's on. I'm assuming if you dont turn it off, it turns off by itself when you turn the car off. Next time you start it, the spray won't be on. The fog light switch does the same.

Intercooler Sprayer

Does anyone know how to properly use the water sprayer on the evo? I heard someone say that they put it on auto when they race at the drag strip.

Use it anytime you're in a competition, or want to optimize its speeds.

Use manual spray for about 15-20 seconds right before race or auto x.

The auto sprays at very sporadic intervals (not the best IMO)

Has anyone ever been able to measure any performance increase with it on?

Has anyone thought about putting methanol in the sprayer reservoir?

IIRC (I own a regular ES) the sprayer reservoir is also your windshield wiper fluid and thus you don't want to be putting methanol into it.

I am sure it would give a couple of hp since the intercooler itself isnt doing much when no air is going across it.

In the EVO VIII the reservoir in the front is for the IC. However there is a second one located in the trunk (on the right behind a little door) - this one is for both the front and rear wipers.

Never tried methanol. For the IC, I use a mixture of one part alcohol to 3 or 4 parts distilled water.
