Question Evo IX Problem Help

i just encountered a weird sound coming from my engine bay, it was a ticking sound (heard around every other second) coming from the right hand side of my car. i was parked up, just reached in from work (45 minutes drive in heavy traffic) and the car was just idling when i heard the sound.

Also when i opened the engine bay i got a scent of burning or burnt rubber (second time since i drove the car) or something else definitely not a normal scent IMO.

i really don't know about this and its the first time i ever encountered something like this. i really cannot let this happen this car is my daily driver!

Help ppl! Thanks in advance.

BTW i have a JDM 2006 Evo IX...doing only 11000kms and the car idling at 9000 rpms at the time.

First off, I'm gonna assume that you meant the car was idling at 900 rpms.... you got bigger problems than a tick if it was idling past redline lol. Anyway, I have the same sound in mine since day one. It's a mitsubishi, not a Honda.

don't use engine restorer, it really doesn't do anything. It's probably your injectors... they noticeably loud. Try to make a video if you can and upload it so we can hear it

+1 sounds like injectors to me... i wouldn't worry about it if it was just ticking.. but since you are smelling a burning.. I'm not sure about that one ..

DONT do that. That stuff is USELESS. Just buy a cheapie automotive stethoscope they really work great, so you can narrow it down to exactly where the sound is coming from. It probably is the injectors though.

In my opinion you can't go wrong with whats on your oil cap. I use the extended performance Mobil 1, since it's supposedly better in the Evo than the regular Mobil 1. Other favorites are Amsoil, Royal Purple, Redline, Motul and Eneos. I will probably start using Amsoil sooner or later, since I have access to it. Hope that helps.

it could be the injectors or lifters. lifter tap is normal for the 4g63 from what i hear. the evo in general makes all kinds of noises when you sit there and listen for something.
lifter tap is more noticable at idle and when cold/startup. are you sure it hasent been their since day one and you just noticed it today.

every time i sit and listen i hear a lot of noises! damn this car makes noise! and most ppl told me that the evos make random noises and they are pretty routine...and i am sure the sound was there from day one, oh well!

a guy told me that i should grease under the caps by the strut bar in the engine bay.....what grease should i use (brand)?

last question .....is the chevron delo coolant any good ....other mechanics tell me its the **** and last very long with great effectiveness. any feedback?
