risks with cams?

so i was looking to upgrade my cams to some GSC s1 cams, so i went to my regular mechanic and he was so adament about it being a bad idea because of all the risks associated with swapping for after market cams. I don't think I've ever read on this and other evo forums about any specific risks associated with installing cams...i understand i'll need to get tuned for them but is there anything else i should be worried about?

on a side note, the mechanic isn't that familiar with evos..thanks in advance

If they're installed correctly, there should be no risks as long as you're tuned properly.

everything that is high performance is bad for your car using a manual boost controller is bad running and intake is bad launching your car is bad the difference is how you drive the car and how well its tuned i tell you cause i just faced that desicion when my clutch when out i could have gotten stock and keeped warranty but instead i had the dealer install a stage 1 by rre and i love it

Some cams are more aggresive than others and require head work. The S1 cams from GSC do not require any head work making it a simple swap..

the cams themselves aren't the danger. The danger is the instal if done inproperly or if the tune is thrown way off causing lean conditions.

ps where are you in Boston? I can help with the cam instal as I have done quite a few. Actually doing a new set on my car soon.

You need to have a shop like DSG in Norwood Ma, install your cams.

The cams will not cause the damage or problems but the human installing them will.

Just make sure that if you get the Cosworth 272 cams that the dowels on the intake cam is the right size.
