Engine Noises!

just got back from work, 45 minute drive in traffic.

when i reached home and parked and let the card idle to cool down...

i heard some weird noises from my engine bay, i am new to the Evo community and never had a performance car before.

it was a ticking sound, that came from the timing belt region?

Also when in neutral the car idles rough (feels jerky) however the revs stay the same!WTF?

Any help?

1. could be lifter tick
2. was it tuned before you bought it? (on a side note, sometimes my car stumbles a little at low rpm, but its ok)

There has been a hand full of IX's, including mine, that have a noisy Timing Belt. Some dealers will say it's the Belt, some say it's the Tensioner, other will say it's the Idler. The fix I've seen, is to replace all three at the same time. And before you ask, good luck trying to get the dealer to replace all three.

timing belt noise

I have same problem on my 13k evo IX. I used a long screw driver to listen to all the components and pulley relate to timing belt, but I did not hear anything. with my experience at work i deal with machinery belt at all the time. it must be the timing belt itself. I guess the engine is too hot that why it make the timing belt dry out after period of time. I used a water spray bottle sprayed on the timing belt (do not wet the timing belt) to test if the noise went away. Yes the fck?/** noise went away for couple ride and the engine is super quiet. I also used the timing belt dresser made by STP spray on the timing belt, this time it last a little longer. I didn't have time to take off the under timing belt cover to inspect the tensioner. why don't you try to spray some water to see if it go away. Do not forget to take the upper cover off. Next timing belt service, I will try out HKS belt to see if anything better. good luck
