CP's are extremely high quality. Carillo, Crower or Pauter rods are all excellent, if you're going steel rods.

Any of the pistons in question (e.g. JE, CP, Wiseco, etc.), are the same 2618 T6 alloy, and one would be hard-pressed to find a conclusive reason that makes one conclusively better than another. The nice thing about the JE set that TTP advertises is that they include the little extras without the buyer having to ask for them. I'd probably buy a set of those and be done with it.

As for rods, I will not use a Chinese-made rod in any high-specific output turbo engine, period. I have my reasons, and we'll just leave it at that. This rules out Eagle and Manley, both of which are Chinese-made.

I won't use a forged rod either. This rules out Pauter, which seem to have somewhat of a love-hate reputation.

Carillo has always made good billet units, but their prices seem to have gone through the roof. Crower also makes a good U.S.-made billet rod. My personal preference is Oliver, but any of these three will do, and all three have stellar reputations.

Scott,

Any info on how well your pistons play with the stock ECU knock control? Any phantom, low-load knock, etc?

The OP is asking abt drop in operation, in which weight accuracy is the most important factor (ie: all four pistons should be as close as possible to each others in weight, same for the rods).

Somehow this point has been missing until now in all of the posts...

Do any vendors offer a drop-in combo that comes pre-assembled? I.E. Pistons mounted to rods, rings on the pistons setup for factory bore, and some nice arp rod bolts put in place holding the rod cap on?

Not much to screw up with a setup like that....

We had an aggressive combo on my personal car. Triple carbon carbonetics clutch, no balance shafts, no O2 housing brace to block so we did have some part throttle sums at cruise. I do think it was attributed to the clutch though which sounded like nuts and bolts loose.

I have not heard of any others using our JE units with any phantom knock.

Our sets have been weight matched by JE in order to be a balanced set.

They have been tested in real world conditions and even in the dreams of some. We have had them in built motors from here to Israel.

Check out RanEvo's thread documenting his drop in TTP-Engineering piston build from the other side of the world.

PM us with any questions, we have limited standard bore sets available and overbore available in uncoated versions.
