EVO wont start?!??

Hey gentlemen, my best friend's EVO 8 wont start. I have No CEL, the battery is 100%. The motor has about 60000 miles on it. He bought the car used. The only mods the car had is a DEFI boost gauge.

The car will not turn on. The fuel pump is good, because is turns on. I have yet to check for spark.

This is an intermitent problem. I believe it is a bad ignition coil.

Can you give me some ideas guys.

I have checked all sensors and all vacuum lines everything is connected.

You can hear the fuel pump whine? Wow. You must have good ears. I could only hear it when I removed the rear seats.

If a walbro 255 is in there, the whine is sometimes incredibly loud.

yes sir I have already the aforementioned solutions.

The car cranks over, the alternator is good, the battery is brand new. THe terminals are well grounded. Everything turns on. The fuel pump pressurizes and kicks on. I checked all the fuses I could check w/ a snap on diagnostic light.

On my inspection of the fuses I noticed that the diagnostic light was reading weak on the fuses closest to the ECU relay. I suspect something is drawing voltage. The starter cranks the motor over.

I read the possiblity the ignition coils could be going bad.

My buddy didn't race it, drive it hard or do anything out of the ordinary. He just went to walmart and the ****er didn't start. He came back later it turned on just fine and drove fine. It did it again at his apartment complex and then finally it did here at work and eventually it didn't turn on again.

could be, It just sucks because it's so cold outside to do anything. First thing first I have to get his lazy *** to tow the car to his garage so that we can work on it.

I suspect is the defi boost gauge that was installed on the car. I was looking at the wiring that goes through the firewall it was frayed a little bit.

My friend wired his megan racing boost gauge in his IX. He ended shorting out the car. It started on occasions and simply clicked on others. Definitely check all the electrical connections with the boost gauge.

Does it turn over or just clicks? If it just clicks...starter. If it turns over but doesn't catch and you have been turning it over for a long time, I would say it is flooded.
