Clutch problems raise your hand!!!
Besides you almost have to abuse the clutch to get a real good launch. Mitsu should of known people would be dropping the clutch in an awd sports car. No way a clutch should ever go out as fast as these seem to be. A car with this much power from the factory needed a better clutch. I mean how much more would it of cost Mitsu to put in name brand clutch. It seems like a aftermarket company would of loved the free advertising of their clutch being in a car as popular as the EVO is.

Hi...
Was that your car i saw sitting on the lift at Speed Shop? How much did those guys charge you for the install? Anyway, I'm very disapointed with both the quality of the stock clutch as well as the service I've recieved from my dealer in FL. My stock clutch is completely burnt out, plus something inside the tranny broke (will post pix in a couple of days) and therefor my car is also sitting on the lift in Dynamic Turbo.

hmm... If something in a car breaks three times in the first year, doesn't that qualify for the lemon law to be put into effect? This seems to be happening to ALOT of people. a clutch going out at 1500 miles isn't normal wear and tear. Its pretty hard to do that on ANY clutch unless you're specifically trying to destroy it. All this business about the transmission and clutches on evos has all but permanently deterred me from ever buying one (although I will always lust after them, and cry whenever I see one because I don't have one...). I know of several people that feel the same as I do. We know its not a luxury car. Thats why were not complaning about the lack of leather seats, or auto climate control, or cruise control, or heated side-view mirrors, or GPS, or any of that useless crap. It is NOT too much to ask for a decent clutch on a high-performance vehicle. Subaru was able to do it, and they are in DIRECT competition with mitsubishi. Many cars in the past have been able to do it. Mitsubishi even did it on the 3000gt. Theres no reason it shouldn't be possible on the evo. If someone can put together a class action against mitsubishi, I think thats a great idea. I just wish I had an evo so that I could do it on everyone's behalf. I'm sure someone on this board knows someone who knows someone that can put this kind of thing together. Mitsubishi needs to know that this issue needs to be taken care of...
Mine was fixed 2 weeks in the shop, but I did not have to pay a penny. Some of you cats got ripped off, my dealer is covering until 12,000 (Ithink that is in writing some where) I was driving a mercury sable loaner, it was gay. How many people do we need to write a letter to mitsu. I am going to torch my clutch at 11,999 miles and take it in and then I will replace it with an upgreded one later. That was the end of that, but I am sure it wont last. my clutch feels soft and real grabby.
Feel free to continue to log in your info on clutch probs.
Sorry for the crappy grammer, my wife is making cinnamon muffins and it is throwing off my concentration!!!

just turned 4200 miles and noticed a little slipping, IMO i have not abused this clutch, seems pointless to bring it back to the dealer though. I just wonder will they warranty shelled drivelines after discovering after market clutches?
Has anyone called their local consumer affairs or any other third party groups? I would say call up Subaru and let them know so they can rag on mitsu till they fix this issue. New slogan for Subaru.. we may have lost to the EVO at the track, but at least we didnt require a new clutch after every event.
I just bought the car 3 days ago, I had heard that the clutch was weak, but not THIS week. I pray that mine last as long as any other sports car.
Good luck to everyone here whose having problems.

The thing the most of you dont get is that this car is extremly fats and powerfull and if you are going to tested for hard launshing with out you knowing what to do you could f**d it up from the first time. I hink my clutch will last for ever because when i drive I drive slow except when I am going to race. other than that i am slow and nice with the car, there is no reason to frikeen go fast all the time and have fun with it like toy. It wont last. NOTHING WILL LAST with that way of driving. I wont even launch it over 2000 RPM and i cant pretty much luanch like a rocket. What the hell are you excpecting from a clutch gripping on to a pressure plate @ 5000 RPM. It will brake. on the other hand, If you shifted hard on high speeds like over 60 you should be ok no problems. Here is a tip will you guys push the clutch all the way down befor shiffting gear on normal driving

The funny thing. I have a 94 3000GT. I have about 230,000 miles on it. I drive it like dog. I burn the tires. I pop the clutch. I yank the ebrake and do power slides. I drive the car like a beater. Which it is. i owe nothing. It's just a toy. Total clutches replaced due to failure. 0 first clutch replaced at 207,000 miles. When I blew the transmission. Hey I abused the trans and I more then got my moneys worth out of it. The clutch is sitting in my garage probably with another 50,000 miles worth of life in it. I do go through tires like crazy. But that has nothing to do with Mitsubishi. That's my habits killing them. I replaced the original parking brake pads. no biggy. Now, I drive that car more fiercely due to the fact that it has a lot to make up for. It weighs the same as the Evo but with 50 or so less hp. Isn't it funny?
This stuff SUCKS. The STi has crappy gear spacing from 4th to 5th and has crappy drive by wire and weird knock at ~4000rpm, but I'm seriously starting to wonder if I made a mistake with the Evo.
I kinda miss my regular WRX now. My car has 500 miles and I'm going to continue to baby it like crazy until this is resolved. This car has never been launched and never will be on the stock clutch. Sucks!

January build date. I read the warranty book today and it would seem that the clutch is covered for first 12/12. I'm sure Mitsu has a loophole like the no racing thing. Which also is funny because my brothers are dropping theirs at 2 a 3000 miles without racing and I went for 10,000 miles. Boy am I rough.

.
build date was april 03
