I have an April 03 build date, 2500 miles, no problems to date (knock on wood). I haven't abused the clutch at all but am still worried.
Per sk's post, my Mistubishi dealer showed me a letter from Mitsu US saying that they will under NO circumstances warranty an EVO clutch. Soooo, it seems as if we're all screwed here in the case of a clutch failure. There has to be something we can do...

I think this is the one you are talking about:
warranty service bulletin

If so, It does not say that they won't warranty any clutches, it says they have to get approval from a mitsu regional rep if the repair will be over $500 and it's not just the clutch it's any drive train commponent. They specifically say they will not warranty any clutches that are found to have worn out due to abuse.

Funny cause if they had designed the clutch setup right the first time, there would not be nearly as many worn out (slipping) clutches.

I think the short of it is is if the clutch wears out due to slipping (be it your fault or improper pedal free play or whatever) they won't cover it. And they sure won't cover it if it's in several pieces.

I was watching autoweek tonight and They said that RX8 owners will be getting a $500 debit card and free maintaince for 50,000 miles because an emission control dropped the car 20 hp. It wasn't even mazda's fault and they are taking care of their people. Man wouldn't it be nice. By the by I installed the RX7.com clutch line that everyone is talking about and I think that it is worth it. I also removed the restrictor. I'm a lot nicer to the car now after the first clutch went out but even so I could still smell it burn a little now and again just under normal driving situations. Not anymore. It's a cheap "fix". I understand that it will not cure all but if I can get another 10k out of the clutch, I'll be happy.

skbydoo what kind of clutch do you have now? I did the clutch line mod and removed the restrictor too. I also adjusted my clutch pedal free play. It was 30mm and suppose to be inbetween 4 to 13mm. All of this really made a huge difference. Really has a more performance feel to the clutch pedal now.

Now I am just waiting to get my Clutch Masters Stage 3 in the mail.

It would be a nice gesture if Mazda/Ford hadn't done this on THREE dirrerent cars in the past few of years. Overrate to get the sale, then apologize profusely. Screw that. Miata, NA Cobra, now this. Major thumbs down to that Saturn door having non-turbo rotary slow RX8!

Regarding the fix and clutch burn smell, I've still never smelled anything to this day. I upshift at redline from WOT runs, no issues whatsoever. I still think a really lousy batch of discs went out.

Its very possible that is was just a bad batch, only time will tell. After having mine replaced shifting into 2nd gear near redline feels really odd, like the tranny is engaging funny. If it keeps up I will have to take it back.

Noize, I think you have seen to much lord of the rings.
