Turbo Placement on EVO X

Well guys as we all know the turbo is mounted in the rear facing the firewall. Here are some pics for the few that might have not notcied it yet.

Ok now here is the good part. When fitting a upgraded turbo. Does anyone see a problem with the way the stock turbo is setup. All the extra pipeing and the very small space you have back there. Im amost sure it will be a pain to get a 42R back there. I havent seen a Evo X in person i can only tell from the pics im not sure how much space is back there.

Im just putting this out there. Anyone else want to discuse this matter. Im sure there will be turbo kits made right away but it might take some time for R&D to find the best over all kit.

The turbo placement seems to be normal to more current turbo designed cars (i.e. SRT-4). I hear it is a PITA to change the turbo out and the benifits are minimal having it in the rear. My question is why did they route the IC piping across the engine instead of straight and down? I am sure they just ran out of space but damn.

The 156G 12T sounds like it has a bigger hotside, but you can't tell ish from those pics. How big is this turbo compared to the IX turbo?

My buddy and i were just talking about this. We assume that the 12T might stand for the size of the compressor and not the hotside.

All i know is all those bends dont bode well for spool and efficiency.

There's some room for improvement, it will be a PITA to do big turbos, but not impossible.

This is not the best picture but it gives you an idea.

I think of it like this, if the Honda guys can do it, then we can do anything, just going to take some time, but I'm more then sure we can accommodate just about any turbo we want.. No need to worry about the radiator anymore..

yeah it would be awesome if we could get that to work with the current evos. I am surprised it took so long for mitsu to adapt individual coils.
