Question Brian Crower or Supertech?

Hi guys, 1st of all lemme let u know that im getting my evo VIII cammed out (HKS 272's intake and exhaust) soon.

Now, i know that i need to get the APR Head studs as a supporting mod. But do i need springs and retainers as well? OR would it be nice to just get them now since i will be getting the aquamist kit later and boosting more than now. I also heard that as the valve train dynamics change with the use of high performance cam profiles and greater lift, stiffer valve springs are needed to optimize valve movement. When changing to a high lift cam, stock springs cannot match the increased valve train movement. IS THIS RIGHT? Do i need or would it be good to get this as a supporting mod.

Well, if i do need the springs and retainer kit. Then which one ? Brian Crower ($225) or Supertech ($399) www.gruppe-s.com

Which ones you suggest? Any comments and suggestions welcome?

Also, what people do as supporting mods when getting cams installed.

THANKS GUYS IN ADVANCE

Robbie.

I believe the Supertechs have dual valve springs as opposed to the BC being single valve springs. For your setup, you will be fine using BC valvetrain. I'm sure other members can throw there .02cents in here.

from what i have read, you dont really need springs with the HKS272's, or even the 280's, unless you plan on spinning her up pretty high. For the price though, you could get Comps or maybe even GSC's, and more people seem to like those much better!

HKS 272s are what I consider a mild cam upgrade (not aggressive and mild lift). No need to beef up the rest of your valvetrain for them.

There's nothing unique or unusual about the questions you've asked. I don't type this to antagonize you, but you would benefit from performing your own research.

But i heard that HKS is way more aggresive than GSC. Isnt that true, or did i hear wrong? Anyways, which one is easier to tune and/or gives more power?

Does anyone wanna share their opinions/experiences with me?

Thanks

hks 272 do not require springs and retainers. the lift is only 10.8 and 10.2 i have used hks 272 and 280s on the stock valvetrain all the way to 8k with no issues, now i have 11.0 lift with no issues and still on stock valveterain. supertech offers single springs and dual springs and bc offer singles if you ask me they are both good i think supertech is the better value though.

I was floating the BC springs at about 9200rpms.
I took the Supertechs to 10,300rpms before i started having issues.
If im not mistaken AMS 1050whp is done on GSC 280s

that seems right.

as for the OP, throwing in some BC valvetrain in there if he can afford it wouldn't be a bad idea, but like others stated, with HKS 272's it is not a requirement due to the lift of the cams.

Now, with the HKS 272's intake and exhaust would i need ARP headstuds as a supporting mod or should my stock valvetrain be ok with these cams if i dont go over 8K RPM.

Also, I remember reading somewhere that anytime u go over 7K RPM on a stock turbo ur just running off steam, otherwords no power gain really.
Is that true aswell?

Well guys thanks for all the comments.

supertechs also come with valve seals and locators which make them a few $$$ more.. I like the BC for mild setups but supertech and ferrea for cars that want to rev 9k+.
