I think its like every 10-15k. I would take it out between oil changes and knock the dirt out.
I hope this isn't the same filter material they make for their mushroom open element air filters for the RS intake kit. They make gain, but suck in a lot more than just air. Look here and you'll see what I mean:

Thank you for the link, a very good test.

Does anyone happen to know what is the material used for the apexi filter in the test?

burklow thanks for posting the test link, that was the "proven" i was referring to.
someone asked about a paper panel filter. IIRC Blitz has one, same filter element material as thei LM cones, which i used with great success on my SR20DET.
sunkren, do you mean the "dirt" they used?

Not really, I mean, what is the based material for the apexi filter? Cotton/paper? The apexi filter used on the test at the link given.

It's dry paper AFAIK. Could be some cotton in it. Excellent filter

i have not used either in my evo
AFAIK Blitz is about half the cost of the Works, and is dry element whereas the Works is oiled
Obviously I prefer dry, and cheaper, so you know what I would go with.
The Blitz dry element worked very well for me on my SR20DET, and I live in a very dusty area.
Unless you are running significantly higher boost, I have my doubts that a drop-in (that filters worth it's presence) will net significant gains. Certainly not worth the $126 or whatever for a new Works, even though I like Works, it's just too expensive to justify it IMO. I use the stock filter.

Cut out a piece of screen and throw it in there and clamp the top down over it, works for me!

I'm really glad I came across this thread. Every weekend, when I go through my checklist, I always end up cleaning out the air box. I'm running - not for much longer mind you - the K&N rechargeable drop in, and it has been coating the inside of my air box with charge oil. Just picked up an HKS filter from lancershop. When I get that one in, I'll try it out and see if it's good enough or if I need to try something else. HKS has been good to me so far, so I'll most likely be happy enough (with it being a drop-in replacement, I'm not expecting much).
