Another transmission issue

I just bought a 2006 evo 9 three weeks ago. 40,000 miles bone stock and real clean. I tuned the car up a bit and changed the oil, oil filter, spark plugs, air filter, and transmission fluid. 100 miles later, heres the issue, I'm getting abnormal noise coming from the transmission. At idle it sounds like something is loose and spinning around and its noticeable even in the car with windows up but as soon as I press the clutch in the sound stops. Also, ive been getting the rotten fish smell (clutch smell) on normal drives around town.
Searching the forums, alot of people says its a bad throw out bearing and the noise is okay. I dont have any problems with the clutch itself and its definitely not slipping because its grabbing every gear shifts with no problems but that sound is making me very paranoid. I m just curious if anyone might have the same issue/fix and is it really okay for me to keep driving around ? Im asking because im going to be driving up to Reno in 2 weeks and its about 150 mile drive uphill. Im debating to either drive my car or rental. Pockets are a bit empty since i just dropped a good chunk of cash buying this car.

My tranny makes the same noise and always has as long as I have had it. I think its just tranny chatter. As far as the smell goes I have no idea. What fluid did you use in your tranny?

does it make a weird noise at start-up to? I just found out that my starter is going out, and it sounds like a grinding noise at start-up but then goes away. although mine does not have the smell or any sound at all after start-up...

The sound starts as soon as I start the car and seems to get louder as the car warms up until i shut off the engine. I used about 3 qts of Penzoil Synchromesh. The same i used in my previous car 95 mitsu eclipse gst.

If I were you I would replace the synchomesh with the factory diaqueen fluid. I came from a dsm background to and you hear a lot of problems with non factory fluids. I only use the factory fluids and haven't had any problems. Just my 2 cents though.

Throw out bearing noise and burning clutch are two different problems. I wouldnt worry about the TOB. THe clutch would be almost undrivable. What were you doing when you burned the clutch? Pulling into traffic and slipping the clutch a little? Very easy to burn a stock clutch.

that noise is the transmission rotating....when you press the clutch you are disconnecting it from the engine so it stops....i used to think it was the TOB as well, until i changed my clutch and TOB(after it started to slip) and the noise was still there.

after gettin a new tranny, the noise is now gone.

You've really got me worried now. I thought maybe if i changed the clutch it would solve the issue, but now im thinking I might of made a mistake buying this car.

well, if noises bother you, than yes it was a huge mistake....if you are all about performance, than its a great car ......i was paranoid too when i first got the car, but i dont even worry about that no more....

if you want quiet, get you a maxima...i remember my mom first getting a 95 maxima, was the quietest car you can imagine....if you want no road noise, get a bentley

but the evo is a great car.....stick some dynomat on the tranny and call it a day

noise really isnt the issue. Its the thought of having to buy a new tranny, especially when ive only had the car for only almost a month. Dont get me wrong, the car drives like a dream. Im going to swap out the tranny fluid to oem stuff this weekend and see if theres any change. If not, than I guess a new clutch is going in. If that doesn't do the trick, than im ***'d out. Time to break open the piggy bank.

Yeah try putting in oem fluids. but i think that will not remove the noise. yeah its probably the input shaft bearing. no need to replace the clutch as that is not the problem.
