I've seen 14B's (standard TD05H - inconnel) do the same thing. In fact, the one I saw shot out the car's tailpipe and was sitting on the track after his run.

From the reports on the MLR (granted these are subjective) its more likely to happen with the Ti turbine. I guess only an objective study of the other factors involved would prove / disprove this for sure.

Ive got the titanium turbo on my JDM evo 8. Most of the VIII's here now all get the titanium turbo as factory fitted option. It only costs a bit more. Lesser than adding a sunroof I think. We get 98 octane here. Japan gets 100 octance i think at the pumps, lending weight to Jemm's theory. If Iam not wrong, the evo 7 RS versions all come with titanium turbos.

If the turbo is both oil & coolant cooled... then why should we
still use a turbo timer??
Or should I say, why would the Owner's Manual still suggest
that we idle the car for a minute after driving?

I have fitted a turbo from these guys.

Essex Turbochargers

The unit I chose is a ball bearing conversion of an Evolution 6 Tommi Makinen unit. The turbo is a bit noisy but sure does spool up fast! I also chose to fit a stronger wastegate actuator.

I have not got to enjoy it mutch as soon after I destroyed my rear diff.

I am not aware of a special edition. I remember when the 6 came out some owners got a special package with a signed letter from or something...

a lot of gsr owners with the Titanium turbo view there cars as "special editions" .. but in reality this turbo is just another factory option on jdm gsrs (Ÿ55,000 extra).

Hey thanks for the link to Garrett. Lots of informations to be found there. There is a paragraph under the section FIA WRC tech. which read,

"Very efficient air cleaners are used. At some events where stream crossings may occur, there is a snorkel from the air filter to the roof level of the car so that, should the car become submerged, the engine can still breathe, even if the driver can't. "

almost spilled my coffee laffing reading that one.
