The quest for the record.............
damn Balrok....that was one of the better posts i've read in awhile. i completely agree with what you're saying and you "hit the nail on the head" about those laste couple of sentences.
The "record" would be settled best with all involved cars at the same track on the same day...or all cars involved dynoing on the same dyno on the same day. This would leave no excuses, nor any other adverse conditions that might affect the outcome.
Cause I've been there, done that, have time slips, logs to back all of it up. Been all over the west coast last season racing BOTI events and the car was consistent within a tenth of a second and the MPH was always spot on!!
My car was running 9.20's-9.30's consistently all year no matter where I was, no matter what elevation, weather, ect. Only thing that changed was the tune, mostly A/F ratios and boost levels from different states. Then I occasionally had my runs in the 9.1 range at 159mph, that was when I really pushed on the car hard just for ****'s and giggles. Theres no arguing about it. Talk to any of the racers that have traveled around with BOTI, NOPI, NHRA sport compact to race with a turbo car, and they will tell you the same thing.

People that say they have gone faster at sea level from higher elevations is because they picked up 2-3lbs of boost and not only that but A/F ratio's got leaner, hence making more power and going faster at sea level. I get exactly what you are getting at.
But my point was if you have the same boost levels and same A/F ratios/tune then the car is going to run the same no matter what the elevation is.
The problem with the track day and all the cars being there at once is getting them all to run their best that day without breaking something. Isn't going to happen. We've run at the track with AMS a bunch of times already. I can't remember many of those times when atleast one of us didn't have some kind of problem.
The dyno comes down to the numbers don't really matter, it would be interesting to compare on the same dyno though.

This may or may not help some of the argument but there are two types of altitude, one is actual height and the othe is effective altitude caused by weather. Altitude preasure changes can be quite drastic all within minutes, last time we were in Ill. the barometer went from 980 ft to 7230 ft in 20 minutes just because a severe storm front was moving in so most of the time if you think about it the actual altitude of the terrain means nothing. I can say with all the data we pull for every pass we make we lose roughly .10 of a sec for every 5000 ft above sea lvl and about and about 1 mph.
somehow there wasn't a problem with "Highest Horsepower" records when Al had the record.....I guess you don't respect what Paul is doing or don't agree with his methods. Just because he doing things different than you doesn't make him wrong nor does it negate his accomplisments. I'm sure you'll say that I'm way off base but I don't think so. Paul sees this as friendly competition and is just having a good time with his car while all these "Buschur" fans are crying about Pauls methods. I respect you as a mechanic/fabricator/tuner/driver.....but I think your people skills could use a little "adjustment"
Let them all settle it at this years Evo/DSM Shootout!

David, I kind of like seeing OKIX run mid 10's with only 443 whp. It makes those 450+whp cars running low 11's gripe about how we've 'gutted' our car, or 'tuned it to the edge'. It certainly couldn't be that ours is underrated or theirs is overrated. Either way, the track times and mph tell the story.

wait... your saying that this thread is just an attack on Paul? No way it cant be, david is such a nice and respectful person. Im sure he would rather be out hugging pandas and picking flowers then spending his entire life trying to cut down a hard working car lover like paul.
Dynos are tuning devices. They are best to show gain and lost of a certain tunes and mods. They are not for bragging rights. With that said, we should have Buschur bring his dyno to Norwalk for next year Evo shootout to settle the score.
I hereby put up a $1000 gift certificate to Buschur Racing for the highest horsepower Evo that makes over 1000 hp on Buschurs Dyno at the DSM/EVO shootout this year. Plenty of time to get-er-done.
