*NEW* tune w/ cosworth cams (*UPDATED*)

well I thought I would share my new ambition for more power.

I recently got tuned at Tuning Technologies in California and laid down a healthy 316/305 at 21psi on 91 octane just a couple weeks ago. I was planning on either a green or cams and opted for the cams. Then it was more researching for either GSC's or Cosworth's. And as you can see the cossies duked it out for the win.

The install and "new" tune will be goin down this Wednesday at of course Tuning Tech compliments of Alfred...

So lets call out some numbers before the new tune is completed, any guesses...?

mods are as follows:
car Evo IX
ETS 3" intercooler
ETS licp
Forge MBC
cone filter
Megan TBE w/ resonated test pipe
Walbro 255

mods installed will be:
Cosworth 272 M2's
Precision 780 injectors
ARP studs

last graph no cams:

plus I hope this can be used as comparison/helping/decision making thread...

***HERE'S THE UPDATED GRAPHS AS PROMISED***
story behind the tune...

well heres an update:

the Forge mbc was not holdin all to well resulting in mixed numbers.

I mean we would set it to 22 and do 1 pull, not touch it run agian after a brief 15min cool down and it would be at 20... WTF and this was all day

so I guess you can say I made 330.88 hp/ 321.27 tq... considering my last tune I made 316/305. The torque is AMAZING!

I'll post up the overlay of the previous graph to have an comparision. In the top-end you can see about a 30 or so hp increase and of course the whopping torque increase right off the bat.

all in all there is an increase THROUGHOUT the entire powerband and you can feel it....

props to Cosworth for puttin out a worthy cam and of course to Alfred at Tuning Technologies puttin it all together with the sake of wonderful 91 Cali octane

...I said before that I would slap the cams in and dyno em to see just what the cams would do, sorry. well I had a little mis-communication and had the injectors installed at the same time and Alfred thought it wouldnt be a good thing to run it that way... my bad

but I hope this all helped in your quest for the right cam for whom ever....

I think you have a lot of room to go on the tune, especially if you up the boost. Without cams or an MBC, I made 328whp on a Mustang on 93, which is at least 350 on a DynoJet.

Injectors definitely aren't needed, but they are good to have for the day you upgrade to the Green.

Do you know if your tuner tweaked the MIVEC map? You may want to consider richening AFR and upping the boost, because 21psi and seemingly tame timing are holding you back.

Also, consider asking your tuner about switching back to the stock boost control solenoid, you will gain a lot more midrange torque.

As far as what I think you'll make on the cams... not much, if any... maybe 20whp (DynoJet). The IX cams are very well suited for the stock turbo and you're running stock-ish boost

i was gonna say those numbers are a little low but then i saw you had the s1's.
i love how my m2's idle; so close to stock. turn up the boost and that sucker'll wake up a lot. my IX rs laid down 338hp and 371tq on a mustang dyno @ 26.5 psi and i still have a conservative amount of timing and pull some more fuel for some more power.

Well the head studs should be an indication of higher boost levels. But I think that you might be saving on labor also. I don't think 370 hp is going to be in your future, but you never know. Plus the hotter weather coming up isn't ideal for big numbers.

aren't cosworths 272s cosider M2? or are there 272 M1s and 272 M2s, if so what's the difference. I'm just asking because i'm going to be getting these cams this summer and get them done at tuning technologies as well...

The M1's are only for the Evo VIII, so I hope the OP didn't buy M1's

Cosworth M1 is 264 advertised duration and 10.2mm lift
Cosworth M2 is 272 advertised duration and 11.0mm lift (valvetrain recommended)

M2's are available as VIII or IX cam.

sorry if you got confused.../\ tryin to lure people in...

but the tune will be goin down this wednesday.

I really started this thread to showcase the increase in power the cams will have since the last tune was only a few weeks ago. I have a estimate of HP/TQ already but its always nice to see how close or how far off we may be...

will update later fo sho...
