Dealer replaced your clutch? How much $$$?

I need to take my Evo IX MR in to get the 6th gear fixed under warranty (completely locked out), but the problem is that the clutch needs to be replaced also due to slippage (not warrantied, wear and tear item). I would rather have this all done at once to save time (my daily driver and only car). However, the only Mitsu dealership on Oahu, Hawaii is asking $2500 to replace the clutch. Now i smell BS because i hear it should only be $800+. I priced out the OEM parts and it doesn't even come close to $500. I think $2000 for labor is ridiculous; do they think they have an advantage because they are the only dealer on the island??

How much should this really cost? I may just have to take it to a shop like Vakamon (vakamonmotorsports.com) and just eat the time wasted by moving shop to shop.

I would consider doing the job myself, but i have no experience with manual transmissions or clutches (i did assist in installing a auto tranny once, but thats it).

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Retarded, isn't it?

Well i got a hold of Vakamon Motorsports and they said they charge $950 for clutch replacement. All i gotta do is bring in the parts. I'm looking at the Exedy Stg. 1 as an upgrade for now since i dont have "huge power" plans for the car anytime this year. I'm also planning to keep the OEM flywheel and just getting it resurfaced.

What other parts should be replaced? Throwout bearing?

Thanks!

Mitusbishi dealership's labor rate is between $100-$125 per hour.

And according to service manual, EVO clutch job takes about 14hrs.

So if you look at it, its actually on the dot w/ what they want to charge.

I am not saying you should pay for it ..but thats how dealerships work.

We charge $600 for labor including fluids from Mitsubishi and with same day turn around.

I'm not sure if I understand this right.. so they are taking the trans out to fix 6th gear under warranty right?

So once the trans is out the still want to charge you $950 to unbolt something that is sitting in front of there face??

Local dealer here for replacing stock clutch was $371.00 for clutch and parts, and $1150 for labor.

After they pull the tranny to fix it, send them on a coffee break and swap the clutch yourself. Then they can come back in 10 min and finish whatever they need to do.

Seriously. Is that what the dealership is trying to get away with? It should be like an extra HOUR tops!! you should only have to pay the additional labor to replace the clutch and the parts itself..

That is an extremely good point. I just sent an email to the service manager regarding this issue. We'll see what he says.

In other terms, my car would be at Speed Element ASAP lol. However, due to COST OF LIVING IN HAWAII, i can see why people come up with these retarded price figures. As a matter of fact, almost all dealer parts here are higher than list price.

Thanks for the comments.

Actually, Vakamon Motorsports will do the clutch replacement for $950 labor. I would supply the parts.

The dealer wants $2500 to replace the clutch while the warranty work is covered. So once the tranny is removed, they want to charge $2500 including parts and labor to replace the clutch.
