Tranny / Clutch Issues
Hey guys,
Like a lot of people (it seems) I think I am having some tranny and/or clutch problems. I have been driving standard tranny cars since I was 16 (28 now), so I know how to drive...but I dont consider myself a "Pro" like people seem to spout off here on these forums. That said, I do drive my evo fast...I like taking off ramps and on ramps, its a fun car. I don't 5k launch my car period. I have no mods on my car (yet
)
My car has 5000 miles on it. Last 1000 miles I seem to have a combination of problems revolving around engagement of the clutch in 1st gear. It seems to be that I must rev the engine much higher than I would normally for a slow start (stopsign, or rolling out of my garage). Any type of slow movement seems to demand around 2.5k to 3.5k rpm to engage properly (ie, smoothly). If I drop behind that mark, my engine will immediately bog down with a total lack of power and/or it will act like it will turn off (and it did one time). Additionally, my gears seem sorta 'notchy'...but nothing really bad (yet).
The reason I am posting here is that I have serious doubts about the Dealer's shop, as they seem to know little about the car and cannot easily answer my questions...So I am thinking about driving to a dealer 1 hour away. What I need help on is the following:
1.) What would cause my engine to bog down if I do not 'rev up' the engine when im engaging the clutch? I seriously feel like a new driver again trying to learn how to stop and go in an incline (which is an embarrasing feeling).
2.) Should I look into replacing the clutch line and removing the restrictor? I read that huge article in this forum, but I am not a mechanic. How much would labor cost usually on something like this?
3.) What can I tell the dealer (if anything) to help me explain my problem? Will removing and replacing the restrictor and line put me in warranty trouble?
Thanks in advance. Sorry to sound like I dont know much about cars, but its because I dont. I can build computers, but not cars
