Signs of tranny and clutch problems?

Hey everybody, new to the seen looking for an evo at the moment. I found one at a mitsu dealer in nyc area. Its a 06 MR with 24k miles on it. There are springs on the car and signs of previous sound system in it which was removed but other than that very clean, no other mods that I can see. The thing is as a test drove it the tranny seemed a bit notchy and the cluth was engaging high. IS THIS TYPICAL of evo's especially the six speed tranny. If i decide to purchase the vehicle what should I make the stealership do as far as ensuring I am getting a descent evo? There asking $29000 for it but i got them down to 28K and I am still gonna try to get them to come down cause I feel its to expensive for me yet. Is 28k a good price? They seem to be expensive in this area.

Erics..... the car still has manufacture warranty. The rule of thumb when buying a used vehicle especially an evo is if your in doubt, dont buy it! dont grind the dealer and then bite yourself in the *** and blame the dealer later for all the misc problems it may come.

The trannys seem to be all notchy. its normal. look for another one to be safe, worst thing to have is buyer remorse.

Can't hurt to test drive another Evo. Either find a local who'll let you or try another dealer to comparison shop.

Damn that's alot of money man. My buddy just sold his IX MR (SE) for $27500 and it only had about 11,000 miles.

Do some searching on here. You'll find alot of notchy tranny threads. Keep in mind that if the clutch engages really high, it can be adjusted, and probably needs to be adjusted. That could be the reasoning why it's "notchy".

Goodluck!

29,000 is too much for a 25,000 mile Evo!!! There is no way on God's green earth I would pay over 23k for a modded Evo with that kind of mileage. I would suggest you look around on Autotrader and expand your search mileage a bit. As far as the clutch there is a very good chance it is on its way out. But once you start modding the car you will have to upgrade the clutch anyway. If its just the pedal havin g to be let out a little higher you can adjust it.

The 1-2 shift tends to be notchy with the 6 speed. The other gears are generally not notchy.
