O2 housing =compressor surge?

I have read in some threads that an aftermarket O2 housing will cause compresor surge. I am planning on doing an O2 housing like the Stainless Buschur type when I do my cams. Why do some see this as an issue and others do not? Is there some way of telling when this will be a problem? Thanks in advance...and no flaming the noob.....

I've never heard of surge problem when changing the O2 housing. I have the Tomei Expreme setup and it's working fine.

Are you talking about boost creep?

The term I have seen used was compressor surge, I guess by definition it could be boost creep. Car hits and holds 22psi steady till 7k now. Nice tune by Mellon.

Funny you should start a thread about this. I have a stainless o2 housing on my 05 and I have to turn the gain down on the EBC to prevent the surge from being annoying. I'm tuned for 23 psi and if it's cold outside it used to surge pretty badly. I'm not sure if it's only from the o2 housing but having a little bit of a restriction couldn't hurt. Some say the stock o2 housing is pretty good with a little porting.

That's weird... never heard an O2 housing could cause compressor surge (makes no sense to me actually). Boost creep, yes. I got a bit of boost creep with mine (nothing unmanageable though).

it seems some brands of the aftermarket 02 housing cause creep and it can be substantial.

the BR one is a good design, I had no problems with that.

what size should the opening be from the wastegate to the main exhaust flow to prevent boost creep? i just recieved my megan o2 housing and it measures 35mm. is this large enough so i dont have boost creep?

These are 2 completely different things.

Certain O2 housings that have a divider wall with a tiny hole in it may cause boost creep. Especially if you run lower boost (~21.)
O2 housings with that wall removed or holed machined out to be bigger will not.

A change of an o2 housing on a stock turbo is not gonna lead to any surging.
