I dont trust the JDM 3 bar as much as most people since its only logging voltage and then gets converted to "psi" dependent on a scaling formula. I know you are at sea level so the scaling that MRfred posted back in the day should work but if it was entered incorrectly it could be way off.

If we can start a new thread about how much boost you hold at xxxx rpm that would be awesome since this one is about big cams with a small turbo.

Just for crazy thought....if you disconected the wastgate at 7000 RPMS, do you think the boost would go up?

Sorry bro your right my apologies

You guys consider comp 280's a "big" cam or does the big cam category only apply to cams that require spring/retainer upgrade.

very well put ted, but on a WRC car you also have a restrictor to deal with and ussually the intake duration is pretty short when compared to the exhaust. we have done a few 250/270 setups for just that reason...

btw i was just lookin your sig.. hows that 67 spool? i'm finishing up a new motor for my Time Attack car that i'm thinking about running that exact turbo on

BNICE01
spring upgrades, have to do with how aggressive a cam is: ramp, lift, flank and opening and closing rates... the stock spring is pretty decent but anyone with a slightly aggressive cam needs to upgrade. i would run upgraded springs on anything i was trying to get "the most" power out of.. i think TedB has a great saying he loves to plug about upgrading springs with more aggresive cams, so i'm not going to steal it.

The car does weight 3450 with me in it and runs 10.9 in full street trim on street tires. So the # are right for a dyno jet.

Well those are pertinent to what we are talking about of course. It just seemed we were going on a tangent not entirely related to the original thread theme.

For a short track, I'd run something smaller. The TS hotside does sharpen the response quite a bit though.

Yeah, I know. I tuned it at 24psi tapering to 21 on pump gas 92. 410whp.
That 350whp run was not tuned. It was a baseline run but then again, I have a Wiseco-eagle bottom end with big valve head and GSC S2.

Lots of little things. The devil is in the details as they say, and in this case its the shortblock (head is pretty stock), fuel, and literally all the little things you can do to jump from 430 last year to 506 this year.

Sir

I understand why spring/retainers need upgraded. My question was what are we considering a "big" cam, lift duration etc. Maybe its my fault for not going into detail.

Also today @ the 1/8 track manage to get a 95.7 mph on the comp 280's & average around 95.1, plus I dont have that many mods. Today was a hott day intake temp were 110's & coolant temps were 210's down the track. My wife first time driving ran a 8.9 pump gas map. Meth boost is around 27-28 psi & pump is around 19-20 psi (its my failsafe map).
