Not shooting for anywhere close to 500whp. I'm going for 400's + change. Anything over 400whp on a stock evo8/9 turbo is a good attempt ...for me

Bowl work is not a ported head. The intake ports and exhaust ports themselves are still stock. The exhaust manifold and turbo are ported.

So if I use S2's on my stock head IX would the gains be less than the S1's? Or would the S2's make more power just not as much as with headwork?

S2's should give u a good bump in power. Brad from mellontuning had S2's on his 8 with stock turbo and small hotside. he had a pretty good bump in power with no loss on the low - mid ranges.

heres a link to his graph

Bump it up. Anyone else getting good results using big cams on the stock turbo with the stock head? I am particularly interested in EVO VIII results. I'm trying to decide what cams to go with for my EVO VIII with stock turbo (10.5 hotside), HKS Intake, 3" TBE, Megan O2 Housing, Walbro Fuel Pump, Buschur UICP & Nisei LICP, ETS FMIC, Ported Stock Intake & Exhaust Manifolds.

Thanks,

Dan (drb)

GSC S2's w/ fp beehive springs or kiggly beehive springs. I personally run a staggard 272/280 setup, set @ 0/0 and love them. They pull like a raped ape! I however have a IX turbo and a Magnus on my VIII so it may be a bit different than what you go w/.

Thanks for the responses so far. I should add that this is a daily driven EVO that will see the track (1/4 mile) maybe 3 x per year. It will seldom if ever be ran on anything other than 93 octane gas. Since it is a street car I'm not really looking for the best peak hp numbers. I am more interested in not giving up much on the bottom end and good midrange. I rev to 8000 RPM max.

Thanks,

Dan

On an VIII I would still reccommend the S2's as you will see gains everywhere, but if you had an evo IX w/ Mivec I would say go S1's as I have seen the S1's make some impressive #'s on stock turboed evo IX's as of lately.

GSCs in general will make very good power. Since this initial thread I have seen the following from other large cam cars in comparison to Chris' with M3s.

Control Group- Chris (HanaHawaiian)- 374/324 At 24-25psi.

ImportJake (Lil Jake) S1 cams, 27psi spike tapering to 21- 371whp

JohnBradley (me, havent redyno'd since new valvesprings and slight retune)- Stock turbo, 28psi falling to 22psi, E85, S2- 420whp

TurdFerguson (Ryon)- Green, 29psi, S1- 408+

LucasEnglish- Stock, 34psi falling to 22, E85, S2- 522whp

I personally recommend going straight to S2s if its in your budget to do valvesprings at the same time.

S2's are amazing cams although there have been a few with some issues. M2's are another good choice. i was between the 2 and i think i might go with the cossies maybe

either way you'll make good power with either the S2 or M2
