i actually know 2 people running vta ssqv on their 9's and i run a greddy type-s vta as well ,on 9's vta ,at least for us, doesn't change 1/4 times and or affect drive ability at all, most people just assume it does and or will.

Just Got My Evo 8.... Hate the Blow Off Whooshing...

I just got a 2003 Evo8 with some minor mods. One of the mods is a Greddy S type Blow Off Valve. I'm really not into the whooshing noise it makes between shifts. I don't like it.

Can I make this BOV quieter?
Or, should I replace it with a stock diverter?

I can't post to the Marketplace section of this forum yet, but... WANTED,
I'm looking for a quieter option.

I'm surprised anyone is having driveability problems with the HKS SSQ, I run one on my ~700awhp TT Stealth with as much as 35psi without leaks. It doesn't cause problems on shifts or stalling and the 3/S platform uses a near identical ecu/mas solution. I haven't tried it personally on my EVO but I just can't imagine why it would be any different.

People also told me the APS twin vent would be terrible for the EVO and I did prove them wrong on that.

sometimes you have to ignore the gospel on a forum and do your own testing to find out what works for your car. Also beware of cheap ebay HKS SSQ knockoffs floating around.

I've heard 10000 times that VTA BOV is bad for MAF based application. The explanation being given is that measured air is vented and the engine conditions become rich.
BUT, explain this to me...
- Reach or lean condition occurs in the actual engine cylinder where air is mixed with fuel
- Both BOVs (VTA and recirc) are venting the air AWAY from the engine because the throttle is closed and this air should be taken out to prevent it from hitting back on the turbo. Which means with both BOVs the amount of air entering the engine through the closed throttle is always the same.
- the only difference is that one VTA and the other V into the intake BEFORE the turbo, which means the same amount of air is sucked by the turbo coz it's low pressure area.
- when throttle opens, both BOVs close and all air gets into the engine again.
- so, where is this rich condition everyone is talking about and how can it possibly occur? Am I missing something?

I have the HKS SSQV, I love it! I am able to run it vented to atmosphere due to running MAP instead of the MAF sensor. It is the third valve I have owned and the only one that will blow off under the smallest amount of boost and not surge my turbo, and will hold as much boost as I can throw at it. No issues with it, sounds great too!
