For whatever the reason its happening now its a welcome addition. I have never had a drop a race fuel in any of my cars. It just one of the most impractical tuning tools there is if you ask me. But I am speaking from a streetcar perspective. Trailered cars by all means can use the best fuel available. What is practical and affordable for a car driven on the street is the fuel available at the pump. My theory on why its happening now is setups have evolved into making more and more power. Engines are just air pumps. The more efficient the pump the more powerful it will be. Every time you make more power on race fuel the power it makes on low octane goes right up with it. I for one would like to see this trend continue and I am sure it will.

i agree with the increases in recent horsepower. im still amazed at these 400whp stock turboed evo9's. hell, you can just search back to 04 on here and look at what people where making in general. i also amazed at how far tuning has come along on with stock ecu's. Theyre making stand-alone management less needed. Oh and how far ppl have gone with the stock MAF too. im still waiting to see a 400whp evo8, with stock ecu(tweaked of course), stock MAF, and with the regular 16g with the 10.5 hotside(2005 turbo)

Today we had Tim's car on the dyno. 553 whp on pump gas, 620 on race gas, the torque increase going to race gas is most impressive, off the top of my head torque went up about 100 ft lbs.

As much as I push pump gas and am making big numbers on it, I'll take the race gas

The differential in peak hp between UK GT35R cars between pump and race seems to be about 100 hp at the crank. Sort of lines up with your 70 hp atw jump. Anyway just a meaningless observation.

LOL, go find the threads on a GT42 powered '04 STI built in a garage and tuned by a friend of his. Some asshats in the thread was telling his friend (tooner) the triple Walbros could not have possibly been dropping fuel pressure because mathematically they work perfect and that they definitely don't have pressure bypass valves in them. Then notice several others saying how doggy it must be on the street despite the car coming on boost almost instantly in street data logs, making 500 ft.lb of torque at 5000 RPM and breaking four 275 wide drag radials loose on the street in third gear.

Everybody is a critic though, myself included.

David, have you tuned much on 91 octane? How does it compare to 93 octane?

I have only tuned 2-3 cars on California 91 octane. Honestly, it didn't seem much worse than 93 here.

Andre has a MKIV Supra, a beautiful one in RSP.

I know he's also attempting to do big things on pump fuel on the 2JZ since there are alot of guys in that camp who are sheep and believe running anything over 18psi on pump is dangerous. He sold the GSX awhile ago.

Like mentioned, he was making 500awhp on pump when most people were nowhere close to that. The UK guys have been doing this for years too. Nothing "surprising" about seeing it now.

so is more power being seen with less timing and more boost or more aggressive timing?

^^^^ pulling timing, increasing boost, richer AFR??
