Question KnockLink installation location

Hi all,

To those who have installed the KnockLink (from Link Electronics), where do you bolt the sensor?

I know big Al has one in his car; could you help me out Al?

Where's the stock knock sensor anyway?

Thanks!

I'm getting the old (first model?) KnockLink from Link Electronics. You may be confusing it with other products.

The KnockLink pick up 'noises' from the engine, and show them as a series of lights. It is used to detect detonation, that's all.

There are a few threaded holes in the back of the block - intake man side - down low - not ideal spot but on max setting it picks up detonation no problem - its hard to install but good insurance !

Thanks Al!

My KnockLink went in yesterday.

Do you notice that it is a lot quieter than your WRX, stock for stock (or MOSTLY stock anyway)??

Mine is dead quiet, although I have not fully given it a go yet (still breaking in). Up to 4k+ rpm, boosting up to 1.0bar (about 14.7psi), I get NO READING at all.

The KL does work (the dim first green is lit), and when the engine block is knocked it registered some greens.

The KL on my previous car (JDM STi) was more active in the mid-range.

Dead quit is right. No lights at full sensitivity till about 5K at full throttle. Anybody else with these results, or any results?

Wow this thread came back from the dead...

FWIW I'm happy with my KnockLink now. It DOES pick up detonation quite well (in my opinion); a sudden spike to RED would almost always be accompanied by a sudden but subtle jerk in acceleration; I'm almost certain the timing is pulled.

Location is as per Al's advice; down low. Don't bother with upside of the intake manifold, you'll get zero reading regardless of the situation.

follow the connector

I think it's on the front of the engine under the manifold but be sure and just follow the connector.

The knock sensor that comes with the knocklink doesnt actually replace the stock sensor does it?

Does anyone have a pic of where they installed it on the block?
