Miata vs civic batteries

I just went around battery shopping, and the miata battery is significantly smaller than a Honda Civic battery. The Civic battery is ~2 inches less in width than a stock battery ~(9.4"x5.1"x8.9"), while the Miata battery is way smaller ~(7.5"x5"x7.25").

Been in the car since I bought it in 5/2005. The car sits alot in the garage since I travel for work...alot. It can sit two to three weeks at a time and it has never failed to start, regardless of temperature. I'll run the radio (SSL) while waxing the car, too...still starts after three or four hours of detailing. It's physically smaller...weighs less...has real CCA...has a real auto battery warranty.
Looks good to me

yes guys the miata battery will work with short route UICP if you place it vertically, this is more reliable than mini battery.

The stock miata and civic batteries will hold there charge a lot better and longer then the 'small racing' batteries.

I just put one in today. My battery died at the Oriely's Auto Parts. I wanted to get the ETS mini battery, but I can't wait a week. I needed a battery now. Anyhow, it looks like I'd be able to do a short route upper IC pipe. We'll see. Has anyone done this?

I have had an oddysey pc680 for 2 years with no issues. I did get annoyed with the slow cranking. I am considering going with a miata battery only because I feel its nice to be able to locally source a battery asap if need be. A miata battery is a great compromise between weight and reliability. Miata batteries are a bit heavier than an oddysey, but still lighter than an oem mitsu. I have my battery relocated to the trunk so the extra weight is not as much of an issue. Getting more rear weight bias is actually a good thing anyhow.

Can somebody tell me what mini battery tray will hold the miata battery in the engine? I realize the ams tray is 2" shorter so It wouldn't fit. I can't seem to find boost logic kit anywhere?

I used a Miata battery on my Evo 8. I just cut the factory batter tray and drilled 2 new holes for the tie downs.

It worked perfect with a Muse short route uicp (similar to Buschur's)

Here's a pic with a stock UICP

And here's a pic with the short route pipe

I prefer the Miata battery since they're easy to find and under $100 with replacement warranties. I had a couple 240sx's that required em which got me hooked on them. It'll fit into the factory tray sideways. I believe the dimensions were 8"L x 6"W x 8"H but I don't remember since the car has been sold.

I plan on using the same battery on my Evo 5 build.

It would be great if one of the companies like RRE, bushur, ETS, AMS could make a nice AFFORDABLE one for the miata one. Many people dont like the mini batts since they die much easier

Can the AGM (gel) batteries be mounted on their sides without issues? Was thinking of the Miata one listed and putting it in the spare wheel well.

well I went to walmart sams and sears today and have noticed it's MUCH easier to find the group 51r battery (honda) than the Miata one plus the energizer one I saw at sams has more ca and cca than the 35 group (ours). I want to see what can be done with this batt for a short route ets intecooler pipe

Honda batteries are easier to find but are longer than the Miata, and possibly taller but not 100% sure. The Miata battery fits sideways in the factory location which was my reasoning. If you get it figured out, share your findings! I like having alternatives.
