knocking noise from 2k -4k rpms

so out of no where i have this knocking noise, its coming from the around the drive belt and timing belt area if you put a screw driver oil pump you can hear it. no noise at idle, oil pressure is like 16-20 at idle around 100 at wot 40- 60 cruising. comp test is 180 psi acrossed the board. took drive belt off and noise is still there. any ideas?

a video would help quite a bit...the only thing that comes to mind is piston slap but i would hope that it's not that. there's no smoke out the exhaust or anything?

As stated above rod knock does not necessarily happen at idle but does come allot more pronounced as it is reved higher. Get a stethascope "cheap at Shucks or Napa" and start playing doctor.

Can rod knock be heard when the engine is cold or only after it was warmed up?
