trans drainplug shavings: is this normal? (pic)

I changed my tranny fluid this past weekend and this is what the drainplug looked like. Fluid was changed once before at 5K miles with Syncromesh. Car has 12K now.

Normal?

I would expect that after 60K on a sentra not 7K. What fluid did you put back in this time? It seems like MT-90 now is the most recommended by TRE and Shep etc. But yes some shavings are to be expected tho

Synchromesh doesn't last long. It lasts about 5k before it really starts wearing out.

With as much tracktime as you have on that car Rich I'd expect that amount of shavings. Above average for sure though. Like others said Synchromesh isn't the greatest.

Well what do you guys recommend instead of syncromesh. Everywhere you search you get syncromesh as a result for tranny fluid.

For sure....my car has this mix with 75,000 miles on the stock untouched tranny with probably over 200 track/street passes running low 11s at 123 mph with only a slight low rpm shifting problem with 4th gear. Quarter Master clutch+redline mtl/mt90= one solid shifting setup!

Synchromesh is a terrible transmission fluid. It wears out very quickly and it sheers too easily. Just because it may feel good doesn't mean its protecting well. My personal favorite transmission fluid is Redline; 2 quarts of MT-90 and 1 quart of MTL provides a perfect mix for Mitsu transmissions and is towards the higher end of Mitsu's recommended viscosity spec range..
