Its time... 2.0/2.1/2.3 or 2.4 build ?

Well, for about three weeks here in the nw ive been trying to hit the local tracks for some runs on my new set up. To much f-ing rain. On saturday i heading to PRE in portland to hit the dyno to see what improvments in whp i gained from my recent mods. Decided to stop at a starbucks on the way and while pulling out from the stop sign BAM!, the sound of marbles being tosses down a hall way and no power.
Mind you this was in first gear and NOT wot. maybe 1/2 gas when it all went bad. So, my first thought is the clutch went out. called my mechanic and he asked me to try to start it. CLUNK! goes the car . Think the rod bearing went and sunk the rod. So its on a flat bed headed up to see if the block is still good. In a way im counting my lucky stars it didnt all happen while on the dyno at 8k rpms, or heading down the track.
So now i must decide. what build to do. Im staying with the stock turbo for a spell due to both needing the build ALOT sooner than expected and i just spent 1500.00 on a ton of porting and stuff. Im running full bolt ons with cams and e85 for fuel. I was thinking of a 2.4 for the fun factor but dont know if im going to peter out the turbo with that. Im on a evo8 turbo with a ported hotside ported compressor and special outlet pipe . anyone running a 2.3/2.4 with a stocker? thanx guys.

if you search hard enough you can find some dynographs of people with strokers and stock turbos

i think sharkbite made like 500+wtq on a stock 9 turbo and a 2.3

the problem is that with this displacement a stock turbo or stock frame turbo (i.e. green) is gonna fall on its face after 5000 rpms.

it all depends on what you want to do with the car.

i would recomend going to the 10.5 hotside at the very least

Keep in mind though that a few people well have done 9's using 2.3 motors. So unless you plan to put in a 40R or 42R, a 2.3 is fine imo

Thats what we personally use and suggest for our customers.. I have seen many other cars come thru the shop with other companies built motors though.

Not to go too far off topic but do you think the E85 had anything to do with the mishap?

I have tried them all except the 2.4, the 2.0 seems to be the best overall

I myself have been doing a lot of looking and I cant decide if I wanna do a 2.1 build or a 2.4.

I really love the low end torque that a 2.4 build would give but don't wanna give up that top end since a lot of my friends love doing high way rolls.

Call up English Racing and have them build you a 2.0L race engine and you will not be sorry. Lucas knows what he is doing. Very honest guy and good to do business with. Not to mention he has got great shop rates .

yes, that is where its at right now . he is the only one who has touched my car since stock. Im thinking if my block is good im going with the 2.0. If the block is bad im thinking a 2.4 block built at a 2.1.

Really dont know. Ive been running e85 for some time now. I think its just a case of bad luck. The recent mods were full port of the mani, turbo, added a megan 02 and ets fmic. Lucas retuned it and i drove two or three times since picking it up with no issues. It all happened real fast and in first gear.
