blew motor, suggestions?
hi guys, i have a 05 evo 8 that i just put my green turbo kit in about 3 weeks ago. got it tuned, made 370whp then a week later, i was curious what the top speed would be so i ran it on the high way and at about 5k rpm range doing 155mph my engine gave out. so... found out there was no compression on cyl 4 and after taking the head off found the piston on cyl 4 melted and it did some dmg on the cyl wall as well. everything in the motor was stock so i am now thinking of what routes i could take to get this motor running like before. im planning to keep the motor stock so i am attempting to find a short block. is there another way to fixing this other than replacing the block? i was told that the cyl wall dmg is beyond repair so i decided to go ahead and try to find a used short block. any suggestions or anyone selling theirs? thx
i just went out and bought a 2.0 stock short block from slowboy racing. probly solved
ended up paying 2500 plus 300 for shipping... lesson learned i guess, i won't be doing anything over 120 from now. i believe i blew the motor because of the way i drive. i stomp on it and redline daily. i have issues i know haha but i've learned it the hard way.

Wouldn't there be an additional core charge that would make the Buschur motor a fair bit more expensive? If not I may need to order one from you.
your probably just going to blew the motor again. going 150mph just by itself is not enough to blew your motor unless you were doing that for 30minutes straight maybe. I would seriously look at the tune and everything else instead of just slapping on the new motor and calling it a day. like i said, what air/fuel ratio you running?
well it really would have depended on the damage to the cyl walls.. If the crank is good it would have been a minimal core charge.. yeah there are some factors that could have made it more $$$ but it would depend on what is salvageable from his old shortblock..
^^^agreed. check ur tune. i would hate for you to get another block and the same thing happens again. i would do a built 2.0l from Buschur. 2 of the 3 baddest evos here in Atlanta have built 2.3l. The other has a built 2.0L
i have had modified by kc do the tuning on my car, i have had 2 tunes done from them so far, i believe they did a good tune. plus there isn't any shops around kansas area
I remember you said you had a friend install the cams. Could it be maybe that was installed wrong? how was the Headstuds replaced. Was it the 1X1 method?please let us know a diagnosis of what the cause was. post some pics up.
was oil seeping through the valve seal?

check the injector on the failled cyl. 155mph on stock-like Evos all day should not be an issue. Do you want to go through this again? No? Then figure out WHY it happened otherwise you learned nothing, and cant prevent it from happening again. Or just leave it up to God to look out for your motor. Lol
