Redline for HKS 272

I am new to evo scene. don't know much about it yet. my car came with 272 intake/exhaust cams. everything else is stock. wondering if I can rev it up little higher than factory 7K? maybe like 7400 or 7500?

Thanks.

the factory valve train could handle up to 8k. anything over that you would need an upgraded valve spring.

8k? damn it.. last time when I went to the track I shifted at 7k every gear. if I knew this sooner I would've got better track time. but good to know.
thanks! guys

still doesn't mean that you are making good power that high

I have HKS 272's in mine as well. I over revved when I missed a gear, and pushed it past 8k. I was ****ting bricks thinking I had broken a spring or something, but my valvetrain proved resilient, and I did not break anything.
(That I know of)

I think with these cams you will risk breaking an internal component rather than valvetrain since they aren't very high lift cams. 10.8/10.2.

10.8/10.2 is not considered a high lift cam on an Evo. IIRC, your factory fuel cut is 7600 RPM ... you can bump that up to 7800 RPM if you want. Your shift point on a relatively stock car should probably be between 7200-7500 RPM. I know there are a few people who like to rev the stock valvetrain to 8K and up, but I would not recommend that at all.

You dont need to rev over 7400 with the stock turbo, but if you upgrade turbos, the stock valvetrain is fine up to 8000rpm with the HKS272s

You'll make useful power probably up to around 8000 RPM. I doubt an FP Green with those cams will make enough power at 8500 RPM to warrant revving your engine that high.

I have the evo green at 23 psi and my buddy is running 30psi on an ams 35r set up daily on e85, both cars running hks 272s and we routinely spin up to 8500 rpm in 1st-3rd gear with no ill effects with 80,000 miles on the stock motor...these results may not be typical but take it fwiw
