9sec9/OKIX's EVO, ROUND TWO!
I sure appreciate the fact that you guys would like me to do events all over the country. Personally, I don't think it would work.
Consider the fact that NOPI, NHRA, BOTI, IFO, IDRC were all running all over the country at one time and how bad the attendance dropped off. The Schootout continued to grow. Then the above race organizations started to die off and now we are left with only 2-3 of those functioning at all. The event turn outs are still very low.
My feeling on this is the Schootout is so successful because it is one time a year. Everyone knows it's the middle of August and many people plan their vacation time around this event. Getting off work is tough for most people, fuel expenses, hotels, breaking parts, getting the car prepped is even tough. With the Schootout being one time a year many people only compete here all year, they are ready because they have a year to plan. They know when they come here they are going to see everyone from the year before and have a blast. It is a tight group of people. There's the dyno competition, car show, our town shutting down the streets for us to use for our get together, it all adds up to a great weekend.
Doing more events in other towns will end up with multiple events with much-much smaller turnouts than the 1 big show.
Another example with the Gran Sport Club of America. It is the largest Buick club in the world. They do one huge race that is a week long in Kentucky. I go every year. Other people have gotten mad and started their own events, they are all flops as far as I am concerned, small turn outs, no heavy hitters. People will flock to the best show and skip the others because of the time and expense involved in just getting there.
Remember though, we do TWO shows a year. One in May, which is now the Buschur Racing Sport Compact Nationals. This is open, starting in 2009, to all 4 cyl, 6 cyl and rotary engines. We are planning to turn this into the absolute largest Sport Compact race in the country. I am working closely with Summit Motorosports Park to grow this event into what it should be. IF there is enough interest I can set up some special classes just for us "Mitsubishi" guys, I have no problem doing that.
I hope you guys understand my feelings on this and I am basing them off what I have been observing over the last 10+ years of events and such.
I completely understand the enthusiasm and I sure do appreciate it but with all things, too much of a good thing will hurt attendance and not make the one show "so special".

Haha, I am in that "I was 170 in high school camp". Now I have to make sure I don't eat crap all the time so I can pass the 32" AF waist measurement and/or stay under 190 so I pass BMI, neither of which I am at right now.
Only 10lbs to go and the BMI will be golden.
Tom, any ideas on when you will be getting the car back to the track? Are you guys going up to Tulsa any time soon?

you're dead on David...I setup very small meets in my town and once a month we get together and race. Quite often people enjoy it so much that they want to do it weekly and I have to remind that that if it's done TOO often the turnout will be diluted and it won't feel as special, also people need time to make repairs/upgrades and do some testing before the meets.
I think an event like yours would do good twice a year but it will be diluted somewhat I'm certain.

I rarely attended the import shows at Moroso because it seemed like I was always busy and there was always another one right around the corner. And now, even NOPI has canceled the rest of this year's events. When they had one big show in Atlanta every year, it was huge, but now attendance is nowhere near what it could be.
Keep it special Dave, I think when they're as good as you make them, one or two is enough.
