It is not necessary if you use a hobbs... the stock regulator is fine.

Dave, would turning the Hobbs up a bit to say 9 psi help the spike out a bit... I know you have probably tried it, just wondering... That is where I set my hobbs to, when I had it set at like 6 psi I felt like it was overrunning the stock regulator...

My second pump doesn't come on until 18 psi, still has a spike when the second pump hits, it's a NON ISSUE.

So, after reading all of this, it seems that drilling the siphon tube is ok. What is the proper depth that the socks should be off the bottom of the tank? Can someone post some pictures of the FB all set-up and ready to drop back in and show the correct measurement between the bottom of the socks and the underneath of the mounting flange? Why are there no directions from FB?

David Buschur: You said that your socks sit lower than the factory one....can you please tell us what would be the correct depth?

For any application with this arrangement, the sock should be positioned 1/4-1/2" from the bottom of the tank - no more, no less. This puts the sock in the lowest possible position that does not obstruct the full range of its surface area.

If I remember corrctly when I used the full blown during my build the OEM Walbro sock wouldn't fit, neither would the OEM Mitsu. The sock would bend right at the rubber part and cut fuel off in a few seconds of the car running.

I would have to dig for the part number of the sock I used but I know it comes off of a Honda in the early 2000s.

I am too kicking myself for not getting the BR DP, it would have made life a lot easier and to think I PMed DB 20x times about the DP....figures.

EDIT: The one thing I do know about the FB is that the top black cover must be modified if you want to re-install it. Somehow when talking with whomever at FB said there would be no fitment issues. But now that everything works I guess Ill have to live with it.

The sock we use on the pump will not allow the bottom of the pump to be pushed so hard against the bottom of the tank that it would actually close off the pump flow. So we install the pumps as low as we can. I see absolutely NO reason to leave fuel in the bottom of the tank, it makes no sense. Maybe it's part of the reason our kit works so well for autocross/road racing and we don't get complaints about them running out of fuel in corners.

The comments in the last few pages are going my way, makes me happy and I'm not trying to add on to it and be a jerk, BUT, WE RACE, I own an EVO, have since the first day I could get one. I run the parts we build. It makes for a guy who constantly wants to improve what he does because I have to actually use the products on my own car. We don't just offer something to make money on it and ship out the door.

I will be removing a full blown setup here in a week or so and I will take a picture of it showing sock height versus a stock pump setup. This should give a good indication of how it compares and maybe Buschur can post a measurement of length from the bottom of the socks to the top of the hanger. I have a full blown setup in my own car and have seen the issue less than a 1/4 tank where the car does not want to start and is starved for fuel.

I have installed a few of your double pumpers and they are a fine product. For the cost it simply cannot be beat. I was also happy to see a Kinsler fuel filter in BR setup. Kinsler is a shop here in Michigan and it is great to support someone else here in good ole US of A.

Like I said before Im still kicking myself for not using the BR DP. I just had bad timing and too much negativity at the time.

I still have my stock hanger sitting in my shop if you are still able to do the conversions.

Yes of course we are still building them, we just shipped our 500th unit out last week! That's a lot of double pumpers!

They utilize a walbro GSS340 (for Mustang) in which the socks can be placed in various positions...

I have mine installed at the same depth as the stock hanger and filter and have not had any problems.
