AEM truboost install - boost pressure source?

OK, AEM instructions show the source as being the compresor outlet on the turbo, but the stock turbo does not have this fitting on the compressor cover.

So, whats the best source for boost pressure? Does it have to be as close to the turbo as possible and should boost solenoid be as close to the WGA as possible?

I have the full-race SS outlet pipe for the turbo and could get a fitting welded on, I suppose. My ETS FMIC pipes have no such nipples for pressure.

I am unsure if I should run a line all the way to Intake manifold for pressure source or not?

Any suggestions, people? Thanks!

I have the boost source coming off the stock mr boost gauge line in the dash, which taps off the intake manifold. I've read on here that you want the source from the manifold as it will give you more steady control. If you take it right off the turbo, you don't really know what the final boost pressure in the manifold is due to pressure drops across the intercooler, piping, leaks, etc.

The boost source that I used for the solenoid comes off of the outlet of the turbo (it's on the black outlet pipe).

The boost that the gauge senses is what is referenced to control boost.

biggie - So, even after what you read, you are using the incorrect source? I am confused...

No, it's hooked up just like the instructions say. The gauge itself needs to be hooked up to a line coming off the intake manifold. The boost line that goes to the solenoid should be somewhere relatively close to the turbo.

I reread your original post and see that you don't have the stock j-pipe. Sorry, I don't know how I missed that the first time I read it. I believe that the line to the solenoid needs to come from somewhere before the throttle. Probably preferably before the intercooler. So it looks like you need to get some sort of fitting installed.

What are you using for boost control now? What's your wastegate tied into?

Hi Biggie - Car used to have an Apexi AVCR t'd off multiple lines. Its been down on a re-build since December - not my daily driver.

I need to talk to FP and see if I can tap into the compressor housing of the green and do it up AEM style...

I imagine that's about all you can do. Or tig one on to the outlet pipe.

Yeah, tiggin is the approach I will take. I ordered a stainless bung to attach to full-race SS outlet pipe and then will thread in brass fitting. Easier to replace pipe rather than fitting...
