speed sensor

I was driving my IX a lil faster than i should have and when i got about 75mph there was a thump sound. after that the whole car shut of completely. i pulled over and it started right up but i guess it is in limp mode becuase it wont go past 2500rpms. i ran the code, and it said speed sensor. i wonder if that is the only thing. can a simple speed sensor malfuction send your car to limp mode? and has anyone had any problems with this? thanks guys

its gonna be most likely an intercooler hose.. check again... speed sensor can be non existant and the car will still run... dont beleive those stupid code readers all the time...
