I run and recommend the GT spec tube & fin intercooler from Hybrid power.

Core size: 24"X12"X3.1"
Overall size: 32"X12"X3.1"
Inlet/outlet size: 3"

Only ways 6.2kg! Do some reading up about it on the site, with GT35R i gained 15kw @ wheels over my bar & plate intercooler.

They also have the RS Spec which is bigger and rated to 900+ HP and only weighs 8.2kg!

No, not heavy at all. I was amazed when I took it out of the box. I have no way to weigh it at the moment, but my guess is no more than 15 lbs.

This is a big issue with us AutoXers as the last place we want extra weight is the bottom front! I would think there is a considerable market out there for a lightweight stock replacement.

you can really "feel" all that extra weight up front when you go to a large FMIC.

the topic is interesting. For me the weight of the I/C is an indication of how easy it cools off after stayiing in traffic for a while. I remember my subaru sti suffered from a heavier I/C (APS) because it could not cool down as good as the stock STI I/C and the car knocked bad. Now the evo has a front mount but I think this principle applies in all applications.

Our 3" intercooler weighs 17lbs where the stock unit is 11-12lbs IIRC. Most of the difference can be attributed to the fact that the stock intercooler is significantly smaller and uses a tube and fin core, where our 3" is larger and uses our bar and plate core. The difference in efficiency and flow is well worth the ~5-6lbs. as most customers report quicker spool/better response and being able to run more boost on the order of 2-3 psi and more timing amounting to at least 5-6 degrees on pump fuel. Consistency is another factor to consider, with intake temps barely fluctuating during repeated hard driving for autocross, time attack or road racing or a full rip through the gears (even repeated pulls) in a drag race
