500 to 600whp drop in setup.

Well the head is off my car right now and I have decided to go ahead and drop some pistons and rods or maybe just rods in. My setup should net 500whp on pump and close to 600whp on race gas. What are the most affordable rods and pistons solid enough for this power? And are pistons really necessary or are replacing the rods enough?

I would use the BR spec JE pistons that are meant for the stock bore. I think the Crower rod would be a good choice, they also offer an aluminum rod aswell.

I'm doing a drop in build now..prepping for the 37R. I bought all Buschur components for my engine. Goal is 130-137 traps on meth, 140+ traps on race gas. I'll let ya know it goes. But yea..the Buschur JE/ Crower rod combo is fantastic.

I think that these trap speeds is possible with 35R also.
So why R U thinking of a laggy 37R instead of a 35R?

Wiseco Pistons and Eagle Rods are a popular affordable combination.

for 500HP I would say the Stock Pistons are good enough...

For 600HP I'm not so sure... With a good tune and no major det you might be able to get away with the stock pistons.

Replacing the Rods is a wise decision as rod failure damages blocks, so at a minimum for 500HP I would at least change the rods almost any aftermarket Rod is better than the stock ones: Eagle, Scat, Helix, etc...

you have to change both if your gonna change one. Aftermarket rods and pistons are setup for floating wrist pins while stock isnt.

Wiseco or CP/Eagle is the cheapest and best alternative up to about 750whp. I've seen them actually handle way more then that, but 750whp is definitely a Safe boundry.

I like Wiseco and CP better then JE as the JE has a lower silicon content and that causes them to expand and contract more then other brands. That causes Piston slap when the motor is cold and it can smoke a little bit or make some noise. A rough idle can also be noticed sometimes.

Many tuners do modify the stock pistons to take aftermarket rods...

It is more popular in the UK though...
