Thanks!

Then can this setting be a golden mean: -2/-1 or 0/0 ?

Maybe it would be worth replacing the GSC S1 with a Tomei poncam type-r 270 or the US markt Tomei poncam 270 which is 272 degrees? Because it would work with factory valve springs (10,7 and 10,2 lift). Would these give more in the upper range?

Thank you for reply,
Ben.

In theory, the slightly longer effective (@1mm) duration of the Tomei cams should give a little more in the upper range. In reality, the turbo will be the limiting factor. Changing the turbo is a better option than changing the cams.

Understand.
Thank you for reply!

You told the 0/-1 or 0/-2 (bigger midrange torque and quicker spool) or the -2/-2 (slower spool but a bit more hp around the peak.) settings... And then what would be the best medium cam timing setting... possibly: -2/-1 or 0/0?

All GSC cams have lobe centerlines and lobe separation angles that are intelligently selected to make a good compromise for a variety of situations.

One last question..
If I sell the GSC S1 cams... Which Tomei cams should I buy? Tomei poncam type-r 270 or the US markt Tomei poncam 270 which is 272 degrees?
Which one has better specs?
Thank you for reply!

If I had to choose between the two, I would take the 272 set, which appears virtually identical except for a few additional degrees of effective duration that can be manipulated with cam gears. No matter what you do, you will still be limited by that turbo, not cams.

Sorry, I almost forgot about responding. The 20G upgrade is not something that would change things to a degree that would alter the cam timing scheme. My original recommendations apply.

Hi Ted,

With the gsc s2 billet camshafts is the 0/0 setting the best?

I'm wanting more midrange/spool with my current set up.

Gsc s2 cams, vband gtx3576 gen 2. Stock port head. I'm seeing around 25psi by 5200rpm. I willing to trade off top end for more mid range.

I have the old school jun cam gears but there just set to 0/0. I believe they have 4 degrees advance/retard.

With the GSC S2, the 0/0 setting provides a very good compromise for all around performance. If bigger midrange punch is desired for street and short track work, I suggest retarding the exhaust cam 2 degrees. This tightens the LSA from 110 to 106 deg while leaving the intake cam LC at its fairly advanced LC of 106 deg. The idle will be noticeably lumpier, but spool and midrange torque will be quickened and fattened.

Thank you for the info!
I'm unsure of the cam gear marks it's advertised at 4 degrees per mark which can't be right

https://www.junauto.co.jp/products/c.../index.en.html

The rough idle doesn't bother me they are fairly tame on my vehicle.

Cam gears are typically marked in cam degrees, which are the units in which I am giving suggestions. As such, retarding the exhaust cam by 2 cam degrees would be done by rotating the center portion of the gear anticlockwise by two marks.

Thank you again, as I thought it did not sound right with all the other manufacturers only marking per degree.

I will give this a go and report back!

S3 settings

Hey everyone 👋🏼
Long time lurker here. First want to thank all the gurus here still willing to help. Was wondering what suggested settings would be for S3's on the following set up:
2.0 9.8:1
magnus v5
70mm Throttle body
vband manifold
BB 6466
Valve job and ports cleaned up on the head.

Tia for any advice.

I wouldn't change much of anything, perhaps +1/-1 would help spool on the street just a bit.
