With the stock turbo, setting your S1's to: -2 in./-1 ex., would give you best low end and midrange power, while stiil providing best punch at 7000 RPM.

Actually, if you set the S1s to -2/-1, they'll probably make a bit more top end power, but at the expense of some midrange and spool.

With HKS 272s, try +1/-1.

Ok Ted thanks, one more for you, what do you think of these combos, -2/+1 and
+2/-1,will the first give slighter spool and better top end while the second will be the opposite,or am I wrong here?

Can you please use int./exhaust or a variation of it so we can all be on the same page?

The +1/-1 for HKS cams I am guessing is +1 intake and -1 exhaust?

Thanks!

I get your point buddy but there is no reason to clarify such things as looking at the engine, firstly we've the intake camshaft and then the exhaust one,and yes your guess is correct.

I know... But it causes confusion when talking about it. Thank you for your response. I'd rather not learn the hard way that it was supposed to be opposite. Just looking out for the newbies who may not be as smart as you and I when it comes to reading this stuff.

Not trying to be a Dick, but when TedB, or anyone else, for that matter, writes +1/-1, it is understood to indicate +1(intake)/-1(exhaust)=+1i/-1e=+1/-1. So, +1/-1 is the shorthand form of writing, +1intake/-1exhaust. The intake event ocurring first is listed first.

Incidentally, TedB is the authority with the respect to cam timing settings for our Evos. I run his recommended +1/-1 setting daily on my 280/272 HKS cams for the street on pumpgas. In fact, I only have run settings which he has recommended on my car.

Sparky the man is just trying to simplify things a little bit mostly for people who are not so familiar with the way we type in this forum that's all, don't get him wrong,he's got a point there.

Sure! I made my post w/o having read his response. Didn't mean to add to the confusion. It's just that I always understood the "i", and the "e", implicitly. The messy part is when you can't distinguish between peeing in the wind, as opposed to peeing into the wind.

Yes, this is the way it's almost always written here.

Thanks a lot Ted,that's what I thought as well,I have set my pulleys using the second combo as the green is relatively a fast spooling turbo and with this setup I have full boost@4000rpm running almost 2bar on stock rods and pistons and because I don't want to stress the rods too much having the torque kicking in too soon that's why I chose to run the second combo,If running the first one I would have faster spool by say around 350rpm but I would lose enough power up top.

I put down 392@wheells on a low reader dyno.(on a cartec one)

Would you think that the best combo in between is the +1/-1? It's the rods I'm worried about.

I wouldn't be worried so much about the rods themselves as I would be concerned that the tune is spot on. The rods are fairly good. The rod bolts and pistons are weaker links, but both hold up quite well.
