FP Red Question???

I've been hearing rumors that the FP red lags alot. Is the red good for daily driving or should I stick with getting a green?

Depends on your mods and your tuning. The stock Evo VIII turbo could be considered "laggy" if you don't have the right setup or tuning.

Its fine for daily driving, if all your going to run is pump you might want to stick with the green.

It's already been shown - in this forum. Big gains going from a Green to Red with both on E-85 - bigger than the difference on pump gas. It is my opinion that it makes no sense to get a Red with the intention of running pump gas. It's just a big waste, but it's not as big of a waste as some other more expensive turbo kits that are more laggy.

There are only about 15 people who have a Red at present, so there's a pretty small pool for "rumors" to get started, so I doubt that you've heard "rumors" of RED lag... How about identifying your sources?

From a factual standpoint, several of the people who actually have one have already posted their dyno charts. I don't see anything I'd consider lag of any significance, but what you consider "lag" may be different than others. Specify what you mean, and then look at the dyno charts and compare.

Mine goes on Friday. I will post my experiences with the spool up on the stock IX turbo vs. EvoRed. Mods: 3.5" ETS fmic, licp, 3"TBE, SS O2 housing, possibly stock cams (if my S2's are not in) everything else is stock (drop in k&n).

I doubt 15 people have them because I had ordered one about 3 days after it got released, and was told I'd have it in about 2 weeks since FP said they had "15 available" and waited a month and was told that only 3 people had gotten them and I was number 3 next on the list, and still would have to wait about a month.

Well, we've seen 5 separate dynocharts so far...maybe more.

I need a little help in undertanding something. If I am not mistaken, when Scott(TTP) posted a boost log for the Red on another recent thread, it was taken from a dyno run. On that log I think that the Red was shown to spool to 30 PSI by 3800 RPM.

Now what I am not sure about is whether x turbo on x engine spooling to x RPM on a given dyno will spoolup at the same RPM on the street. Can anyone clear this up for me? Do turbos spool exactly the same on a dyno as on the street?

And a couple are from cars that had the red before it was officially released, I'm saying that the supposedly "15 available" that FP said they had when they first released it, was obviously not true as I ordered it right away and was told I was on the first 15 list when I asked about that, and waited over a month before I cancelled my order when I was told I still had to wait a couple weeks to get it.

The turbo has more lag. It's the price you have to pay for the increased flow. The lag is not bad at all. I actually think it increased the driveability of my car. When I had the WR9 on I couldn't keep the turbo from spooling. It got annoying trying to cruise and get decent gas mileage. This turbo doesn't spool until I want it to, comes on quick, holds all the way up top, and pulls like a ****! It DOES make power on pump gas with the correct supporting mods. I have posted it a couple times, but I will throw it out there again, I made 420 on the BR mustang dyno on 93 octane. My car still has a few things I need to upgrade like my intake manifold and ignition. My exhaust could use an update also. After that I am confident I'll crack 450 on 93 only. Just for reference, thats plenty of power to run high 10s.

I just don't think that manifold will hold a candle to a Wilson V2 with the amount of air this turbo flows

What is special about your setup that would allow you to match E-85 numbers on 93oct?
