How to tell TME 6.5 Turbo?

Hey,
I drive a Evo VII RSII package, I BELIEVE I have a titanium/aluminide compressor wheel on my turbo but I am not 100% sure. Is there any way to tell by looking at it? I have the turbo pulled off the car right now (fixing broken stud) and am contemplating upgrading the turbo with a FP Green, or maybe even Red. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Dan

(I BELIEVE I have a titanium/aluminide compressor wheel on my turbo but I am not 100% sure) Quote from rawkus

the TME 6.5 part number is 49178-01560!
It comes with the Titanium / Aluminide Turbine wheel but the stock compressor wheel!

the 49378-01571 is the EVO IX Magniesum comp wheel and titanium/aluminide turbine wheel in a 10.5!

Just my $.02

Thanks for the help. I should clarify as well. If I upgrade the turbo, I will only be running 93 octane and I primarily road race/track day/time attack/high speed autocross.

Where does one find the part number on the turbo so I can post it up here?
Thanks again.

Most likely you have TD05HRA-16G6-9.8T. The HRA means it's titanium-aluminide compressor wheel.
That must be fast-spooling.

If you have Evo 6 TME turbo it'll have 10.5T instead at the end of the turbo model.

TD05HR-16G6-9.8T I take it this isn't the Aluminide wheel.

The spec turbo for the Evo VII RS, is: TDO5HRA-16G-9.8T. The "A" after the HR, designates the turbine wheel as being made of Titanium-Aluminide. In contrast, the TDO5HR-16G6-9.8T, is the turbo normally fitted to the GSR models. The lack of the, "A", after the HR, indicates that the turbine wheel is made from Inconel steel, not Titanium.

Well, I know that my car is the RSII, I have heard that the turbo was optional, though I am not 100% sure.

Naw, Dan, not an option! The JDM VII & VIII RS Evo's came with the 9.8 TiAl RS turbo as original equipment. The RS turbos were all configured with a TiAl turbine wheel as well as the 9.8 turbine housing.

Since the RS's came with the super close ratio 5-spd., with a 1:1 5th gear(non-overdrive), as well as a higher numerical final drive ratio, the factory for this reason configured the RS turbo to spool faster than even the standard 6.5 TME 10.5 turbos. This was to match the quicker turbo spool up to the much shorter faster revving gears.

The RS turbo differed from the TME turbo in that the RS turbo uses the 9.8 turbine housing while the TME turbo uses the 10.5 housing. Furthermore, although both the TME and RS turbos both use TiAl turbine wheels, the wheels themselves were not dimensionally identical. The RS turbine wheel is slightly larger than the TME wheel.

Did you purchase your Evo VII RS used from someone else? If so, one of the previous owners probably swapped out the original RS turbo and sold it separately.

I purchased it used and the original owner had put on the Megan Racing manifold, he could have swapped turbos as well I guess... I will double check the VIN to make sure it is an RS II... I hope it is.
