Evo GREEN for $625!
Al, you need to go find the FP thread on NASIOC where FP called Subaru owners a bunch of vaginas. That ish was classic. Everyone went crazy over that comment.
I am well aware of what an STI can do. In fact I PMed you about getting you to come to Texas to tune it a couple years back. That STI in my sig had a crawford s3l motor, 35r turbo, smc meth kit, double pumper, tilton twin, etc... made 592 whp... something was always broken. Car was assembled by Top Speed, so I lost confidence in the EJ257.
Anyway, back on topic... who is going to be the first person to buy the "ching chang chong" turbo as it has been labeled by another poster? I'm sure it will make you the fastest EVAR!

I have quite a bit of experience with "china" turbos. From all out bad to quite good.
First was a friend that bought a 57trim copy off e-bay. Put it on the car and it started humming immediately. Blades were hitting the housing right away indicating to me there was no attempt at making a turbo that actually worked. Was able to get seller to send a second one at no cost. That one lasted a little longer and actually made 2psi boost for a few minutes. There was no oiling issues. These were just crap turbos.
second was an ebay evo gt. copy of evo 16g. I installed this turbo and asked that he report back how it holds up. every few months he PM'd me. The last one was at 12,000 miles and still boosting 19psi with no isssues.
I personally bought a handfull of tdo6/20g turbos from japan. they were advertised as genuine mitsubishi. I have bought genuine turbos from him before but this time these turbos turned out to be copies. made in taiwan. But the turbos worked very well. I put 5000 miles on one with regular 29psi hits. I ran egts as high as 1000c as well. Turbo performed like a champ. made 407hp (mustang dyno) at 26psi on a very simple setup. 93/alky. I even swapped in an original mitsu turbo hoping to pick up a few HP, but to no avail. the performance of the two could not be told apart.
FP was supposedly sent one of these turbos. he picked it apart real bad. this happened over on the buschur forums which I am not a member of. (or maybe I am and actually signed up just so I could reply to thread. I cant remember) The seller of the turbos got wind of the thread and admitted the turbos were made in taiwan factory. he stated that mitsubishi has turbos made there. He also stated that Robert tries to get turbos made there as well. I have no idea whether his statements had some truth in them or not. The turbos were definitely made in taiwan factory and they worked well. Thats the only info I can be sure of.

I dont think the point is that Taiwan and China just plain suck and dont know how to make anything that doesnt suck. If that were the case Dodge GM and plenty of European car manufacturors would not make their parts overseas.
There are 2 parts to the problem, first is that there are TONS of tiny little dirt floored "factories" in China that make things that are not really supposed to do anyhting but "look right" when you pull them out of the box. Second part of the problem is just the blatant "I copy your good idea and call it your name and steal your sales" mentality that completely saturates these factories instead of any kind of creative process that actually evolves and improves the type of product in question.
Making a cheap cheap copy of a EVOGreen turbo (from the pics it looks like it has a EVO8 compressor cover so it aint really that close of a copy) and calling it a EVOGreen really hurts a company like FP. We dont have 6 Attorneys on staff and a 2million dollar defense budget like GM would have. We are just some die hard 4G63 nuts that keep pushing ourselves to do better and better each year. We all have mortgages and car payments and kids to put thru school and this is our livelyhood. Small businesses like ours are easily fuct by this sort of thing.

I think the biggest misconception is Chinese companies stealing ideas. Its usually somebody in America that purchases a company's product, such as FP, sends it to their contact in China, Taiwan or India asking them for quotes on manufacturing X product.
I think the problem is that the ppl that are doing this are either asking for the cheapest product possible, too lazy to do their homework or hooked up with the wrong manufacturers and are just not educated enough or too stupid to figure out the problem. All its going to take is one person that has their sh*t together to be willing to put up the money and get hooked up with the right company. There are companies in China and Taiwan fully capable of building perfect replicas. Its going to happen, it's just a matter of time. Companies like Buschur and FP are going to have to find ways improve efficiency (which is what they should be doing anyway) to lower overhead and keep up with globalization. Right now, they're trying to make profit off their name. When they start offering products that are just as good as the product they sell, they won't have too, regardless of who designed or tested or improved it.
Anyhow, I'd be willing to bet that China, Taiwan, India etc... isn't to blame, it's the person living in your own country, your state, hell, they could even live in your own city.

^^dammmnnn, I did not know all that crap about buschur reselling parts like that. Its one thing to buy from a distributor and sell that product under the appropraite name. I had no idea that the bushur air filter was some other companies.
Seeing that vibrant doesn't sell a filter "kit" and Buschur puts the package together and sells it as a kit. They have every right to call it their kit.
Mitsu buys parts from other companies and sells them under their brand name.
And I'm sure you can get those parts cheaper elsewhere rather then purchasing through the Mitsubishi dealer. Are you going to sell your car now?

heres my experience with knock off turbos.first one a customer brought into shop a 57trim or something knock off.it was installed and driven down the road and compressor spilt in half as if it were crazy glued.next was an obx gt35r.i was a bit scared of it at first.installed it took it to the dyno made 570hp and its still running now 20k miles later.the gt35r was about $700 or something like that.
all these knock off companies are actually screwing us the consumer.why you ask?because big companies cant afford to spend crazy money on R&D and then here comes obx coping their stuff.this screws us because they dont want to spend money on new products.i heard greddy is going under and thats one of the reasons.so please do not buy this bootleg stuff.

The problem with these cheap ching chang chong turbos, are the oil seals in the center section. They have a tendency to blow out under operating pressure. I have first hand knowledge regarding these cheap turbos. We put a ssac kit on my buddy's del sol, and it was quick for about a month before the turbo failed. After alot of e-correspondence, he was able to get a free replacement, along with some advice hand-written on a piece of copy paper. It said,"Use an oil restrictor inline before the turbo." So he got one off ebay and we installed it. That kit is still kicking almost 3 years later. You can take that with a grain of salt.

This thread just came apart at the seams.
