EVO 8 question

Does the stock evo 8 fuel pump make noise at idle. What I'm trying to figure out, without taking the pump out of the tank is this. I just picked up a 03 evo 8 last month. I am in the process of modding the car. The car had a reflash, boost controller, clutchmasters clutch, and an intake on it when I got it. I wanna know if it has a Walbro pump in the tank. I think it does because the pump is noisey at idle when you put your ear by the driverside rear wheel. I don't wanna buy a pump if it already has on in it. Is there any other way to tell, besides taking the pump out of the tank?

It seriously takes two seconds to take it out. Why not just take it out?

Regardless I've heard all kinds of fuel pump noises (and silence) from stock and aftermarket ones.

I have yet to hear a stock evo 8 fuel pump whine.

More than likely it's a 255 but again, just take it out and look at it. UTevo wasn't kidding, it's literally like 4 screws..

Yeah thanks fellas. I guess I'll bite the bullet and take it out. I'm sure it's a Walbro in there. Just wanna make sure before I put my cams and valve springs in the car and go for my new tune.

I've heard 1 or 2 whine just loud enough you can hear it when you do what he describes (aka ear by the gas tank), but I've been around A LOT of Evos (well, maybe not a lot, but a decent number). Chances are, yes, it's a Walbro. But I'd rather be safe than sorry and if I can take the fuel pump out, you can

Now if it whines so loud that you have a hard time ordering food at a restaurant, not because of the exaust, then I'd bet money on it being a Walbro.

The only sure way is to take out the fuel pump and look for the "Walbro" logo. You can get directions from the how-to section if you are not familiar with fuel pumps.

I took the pump out , and it's a Walbro just like I thought. I wasn't sure but I knew it sounded like the Walbro I had in my 90 GSX. Now I have $100 to spend elsewhere
