FULL FUNCTION's first car to be tuned on E-85 / 40R / 2.1L
I take this a 40r TS
what Exhaust housing is on it?
and john bradley hit the nail on the head, that car is crying for more agro cams.
HKS just wont cut it ...
Cossie M3 or the new S2 should do or maybe some kelfords..

Hey Guys. Thanks for all the advice. Like Patrick said this is our first E85 car and we ran out of fuel before finishing. We are looking into cams today most likely some S2's with JAM hyd lifters.
Initially the car had an HKS 3037S turbo kit on it, but the rest of the setup has now outgrown the camshafts and exhaust. The HKS carbon-ti bottle necks to a 2.75" and when building the new setup we had planned on changing it. We will most likely just put on a turn down for the remainder of the tuning.
I believe we do not have the cam timing dialed in correctly yet, due to the hiccup @ 7k. With the Additional deck height we are forced to have the timing of the cam gears be either advanced or retarded slightly, (either way you set them is going to be approx 3.75* off) then brought into spec. via cam gears. Even after we degree the cams final adjustments are still made on the dyno. Here is where it gets time consuming. Hopefully Ted B can chime in and give us some advice on this. The mivec puts a whole new twist on the scenario. This was not a variable with the 4G64 block with 4G63 heads on DSM's and Evo 8's. After poking around I noticed AMS's RR23 setup is similar to this one with the additional deck height. They have the cam timing setup advanced, same as we have it, and the dyno charts they posted have a similar @ 7k hiccup. The tuner said it was a momentary mivec hiccup. I don't know if I can actually make a comparison since the only thing these 2 engines have in common is approx deck height.
Once the new cams are installed I will try out setting up the intake cam on the retarded side and see if this resolves the 7k hiccup.
Any advice on the setup and tuning is greatly appreciated. We will keep you guys updated.
Thanks again.

With that exhaust cam you'll want about 9* to smooth out the transition depending on how you have the breakpoints set then taper to 6* by 8k. I am assuming you are using the spread sheet to convert stock map profile to AEM numbers? Call me at the shop and we can discuss it...as well as an email
Since you have 30* (according to the factory) or 31* (according to AEM) of motion I would degree it retarded then use the MIVEC range as normal. Least what I intend to do on my 2.1

Glad to see more people getting into E-85.. We have had great luck with it and have done a few conversions for customers with solid improvments. I definatly learned a lot throughout the summer about tuning E-85 and still continue to learn so i'm glad that you guys made a thread about it!! It's definatly nice to know how other setups work..
